Augustiner Helles

Augustiner Helles

£2.99
Details
With a brewery dating back to 1328, Augustiner-Bräu is the oldest brewer in Munich and the last remaining independent brewer in the historic city.
Style Lager and Hybrid Beers
Country German Beers
ABV 5.20%
Serving Temp 7 to 9°C
Bottle Size 500ml
'Helles' means 'light-coloured', and Augustiner Helles lives up to its name. Pale gold, bright and effervescent, it's a fantastic example of a pale German lager. Breadiness and light malts are balanced by just a touch of hop bitterness, making this refreshing lager from Munich's oldest independent brewery crisp, clean and eminently quaffable.

I' not a big lager fan, but I do like the Helles & Bock styles.

Can't beat one of the Munich 'big 6' - crisp, pure and doesn't disappoint. (Posted on 30/06/2017)

  • Nice

    Review by Ghew

Not a big fan of lager these days, and as far as German beverages go, I'd much rather have a weisse bier, but this is something else.... bloody lovely. Enjoy. (Posted on 29/05/2017)

  • Quality Helles lager

    Review by Andyrobo

  • Best Helles Ever

    Review by JLO

Was introduced to this in Munich and is without a doubt a fantastic beer. It's considered the 'real' Munich drink and is obscenely good on draft. If this might be your thing, go for it... (Posted on 11/05/2017)

  • Hellas

  • Beer with a kick

    Review by dazzler

This one reminds me of a typical German wheat beer, a sharp after taste , nice as a cold drink in the garden on a summers Afternoon (Posted on 09/02/2017)

  • Refreshing brew

    Review by Slycockney

This beer was extremely drinkable. A light golden colour and with enough bite at 5.2% to give it plenty of flavour. This will definitely be a major component of any future BBQs. But I may not wait until the summer! (Posted on 10/01/2017)

  • Fantastic

A marvellous lager and one that everyone should seek out. (Posted on 19/12/2016)

  • Beer at it's best

    Review by Alan

Absolutely lush. Germany has been making lager beer for ever and it tastes like it. What we make in this country (under strict supervision) tastes of gassy ****. Sorry but I have yet to taste any lager in this country to rival the imported stuff. Love this beer. (Posted on 13/09/2016)

    Review by Baaatt

Really, really nice to drink. Starts off clear and crisp but leaves just a subtle taste once swallowed. As lagers go; this is nearly perfect. (Posted on 19/07/2016)

    Review by Hoos

The first time I tasted the Augustiner Helles I knew it would be one of my favourites. Light, clean, crisp and fresh the Augustiner Helles would be a great accompaniment to any strongly flavoured food or as a session beer. (Posted on 10/04/2016)

  • Top lager

    Review by Abdyman

A great lager, I tried it after seeing it on Sunday Brunch. Not overly complicated, just a nice lager that is so much better than stella/heineken/carling/etc. (Posted on 01/04/2016)

  • A Sunday beer

    Review by Beer Monster

Very pale, very easy drinking. Doesn't taste of chemicals like Stella etc however not a huge taste. Perfect with a roast dinner but would get lost with spicy food. (Posted on 25/03/2016)

  • Nice but not my favourite

    Review by moonigan

This is the beer that you find in all the little bars that have popped up all over Manchester and its the one I always gravitate to. However I do find it leaves a little aftertaste that while not unpleasant it stops me from giving it 5 stars. (Posted on 29/02/2016)

  • A great session beer

    Review by Stiff

Classic Munchen beer right here. Crisp, clean, fresh and not overpowering. Like being in Munich again! A real favourite. (Posted on 17/02/2016)

  • The Iconic German Lager

    Review by Jonna

Probably one of the finest examples of a lager you'll ever taste - and there's plenty of competition just among other top German ones! I find myself getting at least one of these every time I order a case. Try it, you won't be disappointed. (Posted on 16/02/2016)

  • I keep buying more

    Review by Silver

Every time I order a new case I include this beer. It has a light malty taste and has been greatly received by those who managed to sneak a bottle from my Beer Hawk box. (Posted on 21/01/2016)

  • Augustiner helles

    Review by chris

  • Thirst Thrasher!

    Review by Webbo

Although this beer might be referred to as "liquid bread" I think it would be unfair to not expand on that. The notion of liquid bread would unwittingly infer that this is a stodgy beer but it's far from it.

Full but delicately flavoured I'm just happy it comes in a relatively large bottle, because when I need a beer to thrash my thirst, I simply cannot get enough! (Posted on 16/12/2014)

  • Taste of Munich

    Review by Bob

I have lived and worked in Munich a few times, Augustiner Helles is one of my favourite German biers. It certainly travels well, although prefer it on fass. (Posted on 10/09/2014)
