Details

With a brewery dating back to 1328, Augustiner-Bräu is the oldest brewer in Munich and the last remaining independent brewer in the historic city. 'Helles' means 'light-coloured', and Augustiner Helles lives up to its name. Pale gold, bright and effervescent, it's a fantastic example of a pale German lager. Breadiness and light malts are balanced by just a touch of hop bitterness, making this refreshing lager from Munich's oldest independent brewery crisp, clean and eminently quaffable.

Brewery Info

Munich’s oldest independent brewery, Augustiner-Bräu was founded in 1328 within the monastery of the Augustinian Brotherhood. Production has moved over the years as secularisation and privatisation took hold, but the brewery has maintained its sense of place and history.

Still privately-owned, Augustiner-Bräu is an important part of Munich's culture, owning one of the city’s largest beer gardens and hosting a tent at Oktoberfest. Their most popular brew is Augustiner Helles, an incredibly drinkable pale lager, closely followed by Augustiner Edelstoff, a light, crisp and clean lager.

This is a very tasty larger, certainly worth a try but for the price, I would rather spend it on stronger beer.
Lovely lager

Clear golden yellow with a white head. Gentle carbonation. Leaves a nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of grass, bread, biscuit, lemon. Not overly different from a regular lager. But the taste certainly is. While the base elements are still the same, they offer so much more. The body is significantly more pronounced, with a lovely smooth mouthfeel. The bread and biscuit are more prominent and wonderfully complement the grass and lemon.
