Brewery Info

Since 1873, the Friart family has brewed beers in Le Roeulx, Belgium under the Brasserie St Feuillien name. The brewery is named after a 7th century Irish monk who was beheaded and martyred in a nearby charcoal forest. A chapel was built on the site, followed by an abbey in which the monks brewed beer until the French Revolution.

The Friart family resurrected the brewing tradition along with the St. Feuillien name, brewing award-winning abbey-style beers including what is considered one of the best Tripels in the world.

I took two cases of Christmas ales courtesy of the BeerHawk elves, plus my beloved sourced a couple of others when on her travels. In all, I sampled 35-40 different festive brews ... my own mini-festive festival if you will. This gem was/is hands down the absolute winner - it is superb. Obviously, it's wholly subjective - each one had merit, but none of them (for me) surpassed this Belgian beauty. #winner (I too, am down with the kids) :D

Xmas came early - or late depending on your view - for me with this one. Lots of berry notes and very warming

A pleasing amount of winter spice going on in this one. A bit like cloves or winter mixture, not too sweet though.

This year I bought a selection of Christmas ales and this was my favourite. I’ve always enjoyed the Gordon’s - I’m a sucker for the bottle (love the thistle shaped glass too), but I have to say that this is the best seasonal ale I have tried. I Irritated all & sundry by saying “Blimey, this is lovely”, each time I took a sip (I’m not even joking [as the young people say]) Strong, but sublime - heartily recommended!

Middle of the road Christmas beer. Enjoyable without being outstanding.
Great winter tonic

This was lovely with a winter comfort meal of sausages, mash and rich gravy, and great for sipping afterwards. Really well rounded with a stong, dark and slightly spicy character. Makes for a Joyeaux Noel.
