There has been commercial brewing at Eggenberg since 1681, with beer made there since at least the 1100s. Eggenberg belonged to a Benedictine monastery and can be found on the border of Salzburg and Passau; a famous Austrian brewery producing an eclectic mix of beers.

The Schloss Hopfenkonig is an attractively bitter German-style pils from Austria. Traditionally the Austrians shied away from copying their German counterparts but in modern times, it’s easy to be influenced by this great German style.

After an extensive lagering period of 12 weeks, we’re left with a lightly golden Hopfenkonig Pils that is very easy to drink. The Saaz hops give a moderately spicy character and solid bitterness that is a great complement to the soft malty sweetness. Smooth and light, this is a truly excellent beer.

Really nice refreshing, crisp beer which has a bitterness and hint of spice to the taste. Bit more flavour would give it 5 stars but very enjoyable and would recommend if you like pilsner.
