Früh Kölsch

Früh Kölsch

£2.69
Details
A very drinkable beer with a fine balance of malt and delicate hops. Pale gold with a lasting head, the dry finish is from using Hallertau and Tettnang hops.
Style Lager and Hybrid Beers
Country German Beers
ABV 4.8%
Serving Temp 6 to 8°C
Bottle Size 500ml

The Fruh Kölsch is one of about 20 beers in the world that can be called as such since only beers brewed in the area around Cologne, Germany can bear the appellation Kölsch. This interesting style is brewed using an ale yeast that is fermented at cooler temperatures and lagered.

The Fruh version has a beautiful carbonation that gives us a fluffy white head and a sparkling appearance. Lovely aromas of fruit, lemons, and grains are reflected in its flavour. A solid bitterness, crisp mouthfeel, and semi-dry finish make the Fruh Kölsch an incredibly easy drink.

  • A solid beer

    Review by David

A solid German pilsner that isn't going to set the world on fire, but is very pleasant to drink. (Posted on 03/10/2017)

    Review by AdyG

A classic Kolsch. Crisp with a hint of fruit, the mouthfeel is excellent. (Posted on 21/08/2017)

  • The good times I had in Cologne

    Review by pathud

This beer is light and is perfect for a warm evening. Reminds me of my trips to Cologne where this is the number 1 beer. Not the tastiest of course but fresh and easy to drink. Perfect for a chat in the garden with friends. (Posted on 09/08/2017)

  • Subtle but very nice example

    Review by Scott M

Very subtly and lightly flavoured alt beer. Citrus and very slightly floral aromas. Slightly hoppy. Extremely refreshing on a warm day and definitely sessionable at 4.8%. One of my new favourite summer beers. Let the warm weather continue... (Posted on 19/06/2017)

  • Lager

  • Superb Example of a Classic Kolsch

    Review by Alexander

There are some beers that are good because they are different, they are loud. Do you remember the first time you had a Punk IPA -- it was, for lack of a better description somewhat assertive. This is not one of those beers. This is a beautiful subtle and particularly well made beer. Attention provided to all the specifics of precision brewing. You can tell from the perfect balance, it's tasteful carbonation, and subtle flavours whilst they do not scream at you they are mostly certainly present, that more attention in the brewhouse is going into when an ingredient goes into the copper rather than getting as much into it as possible.

In short it is a beautiful beer. The fuss they make in Germany about protecting these Kolsch products are most definitely warranted. (Posted on 13/01/2017)

  • Nice lager!

    Review by Beer Baron

A nice, not too fizzy lager beer. Tastes of grain, light in colour, very moreish and only 4.8%. (Posted on 05/12/2016)

  • Crisp and Fresh

    Review by Brooksie

After visiting Koln and drinking Kolsch on draught I had to try again, just as good chilled in a bottle, crisp, fresh and doesn't sit heavy on you, definitely going to reorder. (Posted on 27/11/2016)

  • Clean and simple

    Review by Bantam

The beer has a simple pilsener look. The color is a beautiful golden yellow. It has a simple smell...some lovely bitter hop aromas and a nice sweetness of the malts. The balance is very good. The taste is pretty much the same. It’s just a nice beer, easy drinkable. Good. (Posted on 21/09/2016)

  • Fresh session

    Review by Mik

    Review by Heanortrev

Doesn't quite compare to drinking it in the Fruh brewery in Koln ( Cologne ), - but is definately the next best thing.
Beautiful fresh clean beer with no real kick - just a superb and pleasant drink.
If you do go to Koln, then a visit to the Fruh brewery is a MUST !!! (Posted on 05/06/2016)

I was born and grew up in Cologne and as Kölschs go, this one and Reissdorf Kölsch are definitely the best. Forget Küppers and start stocking Reissdorf! And don't even try drinking any Kölsch lukewarm. (Posted on 24/06/2013)
