English/Dry Stout

English Stouts, dry stouts, stouts--whatever it's called, it's going to be a dark, roasty, bitter and delicious. Historically derived as a "stout" version of the porter, this beer is jet-black to deep brown in colour and sometimes has accompanying ruby highlights. Despite its opaque, dark colour this style can be deceptively light-bodied and smooth. Flavours and aromas will almost always consist of notes of chocolate, roasted grains and bittersweet chocolate. Whilst the hops don't impart much flavour, they do provide the bitterness that is essential to the dry, bold Stout.
