The last remaining brewery in Alloa, Williams Bros. are a self-professed “brotherhood of brewers”. Originally an off-licence, the founders had a keen interest in home brewing that was taken to the next level when an old lady gave them an ancient Gaelic beer recipe. This became Fraoch Heather Ale, made using local heather and botanicals. Such is the demand for this beer now that the annual heather harvest has to be frozen to meet demand throughout the year.
Williams Bros. are really big on sustainability, using local ingredients wherever they can and giving back to the environment - their spent grain is even fed to local cattle. They now brew a range of historic ales as well as more contemporary recipes, making them one of the most eclectic craft breweries out there.
