De Koningshoeven is a Trappist brewery, one of only two in existence in the Netherlands. It produces beer under the name 'La Trappe' and it's quite likely that's the name you'll have heard of. Unusually, the beer is brewed by a private company under supervision of the monks - a process implemented in the late 1990s to solve the problem of an ageing brotherhood. Like any Trappist brewery profits go towards charitable projects and to finance the running of the monastery.
One of the more experimental Trappist breweries, their beer is quite hard to find here in the UK. Their Quadruple is Beer Hawk Chris’s favourite beer ever, and that’s saying something. We suggest you try it before he drinks it all…!
