From the historic Bosteels brewery comes something super special - a seasonal beer that’s as strong as it is decadent. This is a beer that slumbered in single batch barrels of Madeira and has absorbed all the notes of vanilla and caramel. This is a beer, in the British barley wine style, to enjoy in a small glass after dinner with a dark chocolate dessert, or perhaps an oozing brie. Make sure it’s a small glass, it is 12.5% after all.

Brewery Info

Bosteels brewery is older than the Belgian state itself, with a history reaching back to 1791. This family-owned brewery in the heart of Flanders has been brewing without interruption in the same location ever since, and is currently under the leadership of the 7th generation, Mr. Antoine Bosteels.

Their portfolio consists of just 3 beers although they're some of the most iconic in the world. Kwak, with its famous long glass, Tripel Karmeliet made with 3 grains, and the sparkling DeuS which is only around a decade old. With Bosteels brewers devoted to this unique range, its no wonder they win awards year after year.

Practically perfect!

Wow! So much is going on with this beer. This really is special. Sweet, vanilla, coconut - so many complex flavours but perfectly balanced.

A complex and intriguing beer. Slightly sickly but in a good way (if that makes sense). As I write, on sale here at 20 quid a pop! The rarity might justify that but not the taste. Came as a surprise swap in the Belgium mixed case, so it was great to get a chance to sample it without taking out a mortgage!

Finally cracked open this bottle from last year's advent calendar and it was amazing. Sitting somewhere between a strong ale and a lovely port it's my first taste of a Barleywine. Very expensive to buy on it's own but I'd certainly consider treating myself again.
One of the very best

This beer in the barleywine style is a whooping 12.5% BUT even at £10 for 330ml is one one the most complex and enjoyable beers I have ever tasted.
I drank it over two nights and ordered two more! Exquistite!
Wonderful Barley Wine Style beer

Didn't know what to expect from this beer. A famous Belgium brewery making an English Style Barley Wine, aged in Madeira Barrels.
But it was beautiful balanced, not syrupy, full of body and alcohol. Wonderful sipping beer, enjoyed every last drop.
Is it worth £19.99? Probably not, but it was definitely worth the £10 it was selling for when I bought it.

The best beer I’ve ever tasted! Came in the Belgian Box, it’s like the best Barley wine you could ever imagine and then some. Just incredible.

Initially hesitant to open as worried about alcohol percent and being too strong tasting. No need to worry as the tastes and flavours in this beer are incredible. Drinking it like a spirit from a whiskey glass this is the best tasting beer i have ever drank. Definitely only a special treat at the price but already looking to get some more!!
Go on, treat yourself.

I have never trusted anything like this. Half beer half fine port. Silky smooth with a good kick.
