Williams Bros. Joker IPA

Williams Bros. Joker IPA

£1.99
Details

William Bros started off as a home brew shop in Glasgow and were ticking along quite happily until 1988 when one day a lady wandered in with a recipe. The recipe was in Gaelic for leann fraoch (heather ale) and had been handed down through the generations, but she didn't know how to brew it.  The two got together and after a period of experimentation the first William Bros beer was born!

Style IPA
Country British Beers
ABV 4.1%
Serving Temp 5 to 7°C
Bottle Size 500ml
Williams Bros. Brewing Co is best known for recreating ancient beer recipes using ingredients such as heather, pine and seaweed, but in recent years they've also turned their hand to brewing more modern styles. Joker IPA is dominated by earthy, slightly floral hops, although subtle citrus and pine flavours do make an appearance. Well balanced, clean and lightly bitter, this is a firmly British-style IPA.

Excellent IPA with slight hoppy notes and a hint of citrus, lovely sharpness and a lingering bitterness (Posted on 01/12/2017)

  • British style IPA

    Review by BillyB

Very much a British style IPA which is slightly citrusy. It's definitely an IPA with this level of bitterness. (Posted on 23/11/2017)

  • Good stuff

    Review by Alan

Good IPA, not overly hoppy, just a nice balance, quaffable and a good price (Posted on 14/11/2017)

  • Delicious and hoppy

    Review by Beer Baron

A hoppy IPA worthy of a try. A bit sherbety on the tongue, rather than fizzy. Nice work! (Posted on 07/09/2017)

    Review by lucas

Brilliant beer one of my all time faces. Slightly hoppy but easy to drink ipa . nice all round, true though that draught is better than bottled but that is true is true of most beers (Posted on 14/08/2017)

  • love it

    Review by willy

Love this beer and can get it on draft in spoons in Edinburgh. The bottled version is not quite as good but still excellent (Posted on 05/08/2017)

  • Good

    Review by Sauron

Nice balanced IPA not just packed with hops, the hoppy flavor is ther although not overpowering like the crafty ones which can be a little much, this is quite refreshing (Posted on 25/07/2017)

  • Lovely bitter

    Review by Good Head

Golden and clear with a lovely frothy head. It has a high level of bitterness and has some very well balanced flavours. (Posted on 17/07/2017)

  • traditional style IPA

    Review by JohnH

Nice to have a more traditional, british style IPA for a change, one that doesn't simply rely on hops, hops and more hops. Would make a good session beer especially at less than £2 a 500ml bottle (Posted on 10/07/2017)

  • Solid IPA

    Review by Lupomaniac

Good hoppy aroma and clean bitter finish

Really pleasant IPA, not over the top and very smooth flavour with a bitter hint at the end (Posted on 03/07/2017)

  • excellent

    Review by Tarzan

great beer one of my faves, traditional ipa flavour profile, not the over hopped craft style (Posted on 10/06/2017)

  • Refreshing

    Review by Chapman

Refreshing IPA, less hopped than the craft IPAs on offer and the better for it, some are getting ridiculous by the hoppiness levels, this keeps it nice and simple and as it should be (Posted on 30/05/2017)

  • Better out there

    Review by Dara

There are so many better IPAs out there making it a bit dull and a bit boring (Posted on 27/05/2017)

  • Not bad

    Review by Hannibal

not a bad IPA, not very strong, in % or hoppy taste but pleasant enough and easy drinking (Posted on 22/05/2017)

  • Good value ipa

    Review by Old Coppertop

Good but not great IPA but in terms of value a worthy addition to your basket (Posted on 19/05/2017)

    Review by the juice

average IPA, if that's what you call this, not a very tasty and tone of the most hopless beers ever (Posted on 10/04/2017)

  • lets put a smile on that face

    Review by KMH222

Drinkable and fairly reasonable, but certainly NOT 'wickedly hoppy'! Wouldn't bother again. (Posted on 20/03/2017)

  • Very much enjoyed

    Review by stefcha

Bought a few extras of these for my dad after it being his favourite from a "Great British Beers" mixed case I supplied him with, and he considers it the "best ‘hoppy’ IPA I have ever tasted. Zingy, refreshing". He's not let me have any yet, so it must be decent! (Posted on 28/02/2017)

  • Good IPA

    Review by Gregor

A Great everyday IPA from a great Scottish Brewery.

I wouldnt say it is ridiculously hoppy compared with other highly hopped beers but that is not necessarily a bad thing (Posted on 25/02/2017)

  • Decent IPA

    Review by dawslevel7

This is a nice, solidly performing IPA, without being anything too spectacular. If you don't like your IPAs very hoppy this may be for you. There's better ones out there but I wouldn't be disappointed if someone bought me one and I'd have it again. (Posted on 23/02/2017)

  • Great IPA

    Review by Jim

I really like this IPA, it's common in scotland but i'm a big fan (Posted on 24/11/2016)

  • Batman

    Review by Pinchy

Not sure what the joke is meant to be here. This is a fine beer worthy of being in anyone's case. A good dose of hops in a good IPA style, but without the often associated high strength. A good one for having more than one. (Posted on 15/11/2016)

  • i love it

lots of so so reviews here, i was a steady deuchars drinker but have changed to this. Only the bottles mind you. not tried it in the pub (Posted on 03/11/2016)

  • An ok beer

    Review by LoveBeers

This beer is OK, nothing very special happening compared to others here. Not disappointing but not great. (Posted on 29/07/2016)

  • Ok

    Review by Bob

Not bad. Not great either. Wasn't that hoppy. (Posted on 18/06/2016)

  • Only alright

    Review by Chris H

This is nice enough, but a little disappointing. You'd be happy if you find one down the pub, but would have liked a little more flavour. Maybe a notch above the average UK supermarket beers. (Posted on 24/05/2016)

  • Ho ho ho

    Review by Llamaman

Nice enough IPA, but 'wickedly hoppy' is writing cheques it can't cash. (Posted on 21/05/2016)

  • Ok

    Review by Anton

Hardly wickedly hoppy. But still ok (Posted on 25/04/2016)

  • What you would expect from the UK

    Review by Adam Hooker

For me, UK breweries just can\\\'t quite get the hops right.

You know a good UK IPA, for the most part, because it will smell like an Odell IPA but when you sip it won\'t live up to it.

This is a perfect example. Great colour, beautiful scent, a nice hoppy start, but then no follow up. Somehow UK guys need to discover the art of maintaining a taste. (Posted on 15/01/2016)

  • Bargain session ipa

    Review by SteveP

The wickedly hoppy tag probably doesn\'t do this beer any favours. It\'s not a massive hop bomb but it is really well balanced. Lovely blend of hops and malts resulting in a reasonably punchy citrusy fruit flavour with a bittersweet finish. At £1.99 for a 500ml bottle it\'s cheap as chips. Decent but unspectacular session IPA. Wish I could give half stars... a solid 3.5 for me. (Posted on 22/12/2015)

  • Agree with AdyG

    Review by palerich

Decent but unexceptional. (Posted on 16/10/2015)

  • Average

    Review by Slapbang

Decent citrus and fruitiness to it, a little floral and light bitterness. Not anything special about it but decent session ale. (Posted on 26/04/2015)

  • No joke...

    Review by AdyG

Pretty much standard fare for the style of beer. That's not to take anything away from it as it is a good beer. It just doesn't say anything special. A session ale... (Posted on 12/01/2015)
