Weird Beard Mariana Trench

Weird Beard Mariana Trench

Style Pale Ale
Country British Beers
ABV 5.3%
Serving Temp 6 to 8 °C
Bottle Size 330ml
Great people, weird beards, fantastic hand-crafted beer: that pretty much summarises London’s Weird Beard Brew Co. The no-gimmick Mariana Trench is their delicious American Pale Ale that is packed full of the best American and New Zealand hops. Huge aromas of mango, passionfruit and grapefruit hit you in the nose right away yet the flavour finds enough balance with a moderate bitterness that it’s easy to drink a lot more than you intended to! A lighter body and a crisp, clean finish means this American Pale Ale is perfectly refreshing.

Good choice for anyone looking for a classic style well made IPA. Fruity, hoppy, refreshing, slightly bitter. Very nice, one of the better american IPAs. (Posted on 24/11/2017)

  • Big hit with the Mr

    Review by Kezzza

I bought these as a gift for my Husband, and he loved them! I wasn't as keen, as the grapefruit taste was too overpowering for me. He'd rate 5/5, I'd rate 3/5 so giving a 4 overall. Will definitely buy again- for him. (Posted on 23/02/2017)

  • Lovely citrus

Love this smells as refreshing as it tastes. The citrus comes through more for me on the aftertaste cracking pale ale. (Posted on 20/12/2016)

  • Nice beer

    Review by Ben

Taste reflects the smell, lots of those US hops, with quite a heavy malt backbone leading to a caramel sweet finish. Overall a really good beer, love it. (Posted on 29/07/2016)

  • Very pale..sadly

    Review by Bruce

For anyone thinking of trying a pale for the first time this is a good bottle, however I found it lacking a bit in depth.

The flavour profile was just not there for me. I tend to drink heavier IPAs so this might be the real issue! (Posted on 28/06/2016)

  • Nice

    Review by Harry

I enjoyed this one a lot. Would buy again. (Posted on 22/06/2016)

Great balance of flavour and strength with this pale ale. Amazing fruity aromas and lovely hoppy character. (Posted on 25/03/2016)

  • Lovely drop

    Review by BenY

Great stuff you can't beat the nz hops, this packs a punch of them (Posted on 02/03/2016)

  • Did I miss something?

    Review by Llamaman

Not as much fruit on the nose as I was expecting and to taste it was quite a 'flat' hoppiness with a dry bitter finish.
By no means a bad beer, but I was underwhelmed compared to their other beers. Will have to give this another try as the other reviews are far more effusive. (Posted on 17/02/2016)

  • Almost Perfect

    Review by LoneR

Yes, almost perfect. It matched my meal to a tee...Light, citrus and full of refreshment. Hard to stop yourself quaffing (Posted on 16/01/2016)

  • Hop to it!

    Review by Beer Baron

Nice and hoppy, very flavoursome, but the bottle should be bigger (or I'll have to order more of them!). Could be a good session ale, plenty of flavours to discover. Not too fizzy either. (Posted on 14/12/2015)

  • Mariana Trench

    Review by PJH

Citrus and mango hop flavours common to southern hemisphere hops. This is a really good beer (Posted on 09/11/2015)

  • top notch

    Review by Blind Drunk

fruity on the nose and hopy on the tongue, very nice beer (Posted on 07/11/2015)

  • Tap and Bottle

    Review by Wvari

This is an impressive beer. I have had the pleasure of trying this on tap when Brian from Weird Beard did a tap take over as well as in bottle from BeerHawk. A very hoppy and delightfully bitter beer. (Posted on 14/10/2015)

  • Easy drinking, great flavour

    Review by tehhaz

A really nicely balanced drop, with the right balance of mango, hop and bitterness. So pleasingly drinkable that the main problem is stopping yourself throwing it down in a couple of mouthfuls! (Posted on 16/09/2015)

  • Perfect...

    Review by Ady Gray

They just couldn't have got the mix more right if they'd been at it for another 10 years. Fruity, light, refreshing, quaffable. Bang on... (Posted on 26/08/2015)

  • Extreme hoppyness without the bitterness

    Review by topbanana99

Very strong hoppy initial flavour with little, to no bitterness (Posted on 24/06/2015)

  • Zingy Delight!

    Review by Ay Pee Horne

Gorgeously hopped southern hemisphere inspired American pale ale. Dollops of citrus and ripe mango flavours and a lovely crisp finish. A cracking ale, if perhaps a tad too strong to really get stuck in to. (Posted on 08/06/2015)

  • well balanced ale

    Review by wreck

Golden pale ale with white head... strong mango on the nose, tastes bitter, fruity, quite light bodied making for a very refreshing, well balanced beer. Good stuff. (Posted on 12/05/2015)

  • Hoppier than a box of enraged frogs

    Review by interzen

Interestingly, this is classed as a 'straight' American Pale Ale rather than an IPA although I think the distinction is rather academic in this particular case.

The hop assault begins when the top comes off the bottle and keeps going all the way through to the aftertaste plus a bit beyond for good measure. It describes itself as a 'Transpacific' ale on account of containing American and New Zealand hops. Either way, the hop character comes through loud, clear and loud again

Even so, it's not as bitter as you might expect and the hop flavours are at the more 'floral' end of the spectrum. It's bottle conditioned too, so it could be worth getting a few in to see how well it ages.

"Never knowingly underhopped", indeed. (Posted on 01/05/2015)
