Now you’re under control, now you brew what they tell ya, F@#K You I won’t brew what you tell me! Opting for a rather risqué name and roaring defiance, this is Weird Beard and Odyssey’s middle finger to big beer. Boozier than your average whiskey soaked metal head, laden with big, chunky hop riffs and shredding bitterness out of every pore, this beer is not for the faint hearted. It’s heavy on resin and pine with a savage citrus tang muscling its way in and a bit of smooth jazz tropical fruits ironing out the heavy metal kinks. Uncompromising and unadulterated, this beer brings a little heavy metal to the beer world.
Some of the country's best breweries have emerged out of the homebrew scene, and Weird Beard are probably the best example. Gregg Irwin and Bryan Spooner (big beards), made the hugely successful transition to a commercial brewery after winning award after award for their home brewed beers. They launched Weird Beard in 2012, and have since made hundreds of marvellous beers… none boring. As they write: “We love upfront, in-your-face, hop-focused beers, along with classic styles. Proudly experimental and happily non-conformist.” Cheers to that
Alongside the core beers – Little Things That Kill, Mariana Trench, Five O’Clock Shadow, Black Perle – we’ll always be picking up those specials that catch our eye. Pig Smasher anyone?
