Tuatara Sauvinova Pale Ale

Style Pale Ale
Country New Zealand Beers
ABV 5.2%
Serving Temp 4 to 7°C
Bottle Size 330ml
If you ever wanted to really taste the Kiwi's Nelson Sauvin hop in its true form, look no further than New Zealand's Tuatara Brewing Co. Sauvinova Pale Ale. This single-hop pale ale features all the flavours of the hop you'd expect: funky white wine, white grapes, some tropical fruitiness a bit of resin. A hint of spice and a balancing bitterness stretch out long into the aftertaste thanks to a cleansing carbonation and mostly dry finish. This is it: the benchmark.

  • Really liked this

    Review by Mr T

A bright amber pour with a tight white head; aroma of fresh grapes and gooseberry; light and fragrant in the mouth with a light fizz and then a gooseberry bitterness; levaing a clean crisp finish. An excellentr single hop beer that really shows off the Nelson Sauvin hops.

  • Fresh & fruity

    Review by Rich

Now this is something I could knock back all day.

You can definitely pick up on that white wine freshness from the unique NZ hops.

    Loved it. (Posted on 28/07/2017)

Clear medium yellow - amber orange colour with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, sweet malt, light caramel, moderate to light light heavy hoppy, grass, orange - citrus, dusty hops. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a long duration, dusty hops, licorice hops, grass, sweet malt, pale malt. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. • Lovely

    Review by Trott

Pours clear pale amber, with a lasting off-white head, leaving good lacing. Aroma of citrus and tropical fruit, hop, and light caramel. Moderate sweetness, medium bitterness. Medium body, slight oily texture, average carbonation. (Posted on 22/06/2017)

  • Really good

    Review by MARTYN

Beautiful golden beer with frothy big head which leaves lacing behind. Aroma has sweet fruits, tropical sort, grapefruit bitterness in the end. Taste starts with sweet tropical fruits, typical to the Nelson Sauvin hop, not sure about the gooseberry, maybe it is that. Quite nice body for this ABV, highish carbonation eases the mouth feel. Nice Nelson Sauvin but I still prefer more balanced hops rather than single hop. (Posted on 13/05/2017)

  • Very good

    Review by Beebo

Pours deep golden color with a thick white head. Aroma is kinda strange sticky, gooseberries and lemon, hoppy. Flavor has gooseberries, malts, grass and some floral notes. Fruity hoppy, nice bitterness. fresh!

  • Refreshingly different

    Review by Ben

I first had this in NZ last year and was stunned I could get it back on Blighty.
A great IPA - slightly on the strong side at 5.2 but you don;t taste it. The attempt to leverage the popularity of SauvBlanc flavours from NZ wines is evident in this little number. Slightly sweet on the tongue to start with then the true IPA heritage pushes through with a comfortable degree of bitterness that really compliments the flavourings.
I love it and will drink more. BTW - if you ever get to Wellington, go to the Tuatara brewery and look at their posters - hilarious!! (Posted on 24/04/2017)

  • Great

    Review by Snozz

Nose is floral, fresh, malty. Body is opalescent orange, head is big, cream white, frothy, mostly lasting, excellent lacing. Aroma is honey, malt, grass, floral, fruity. Medium sweet, light bitter, light fruity sour. Finish is medium lasting hoppy medium bittersweet. Light body, slick texture, medium carbonation. Easy, refreshing, well balanced, nice one. • Good ipa

    Review by Danessa

As per title. A solid refreshing ipa, I didn't quite get the sauvignon but would still Definitely recommend. (Posted on 06/02/2017)

  • Stunning!

    Review by Witty

Wow, what a wonderfully different IPA! The Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc-like tropical gooseberry notes coupled with the dragon scaled bottle make for a novel and pleasantly memorable experience. (Posted on 22/01/2017)

  • Anything but PALE

    Review by Bruce

If you have tried some Pale ales and decided they are lacking somewhat in freshness and taste, then this is the one to make you believe again.
This is one of the best pale ales I have had. On the nose it is bursting with kiwi and gooseberry and nothing else, no confusion or multiple hops fighting for the glass.
Taste wise it is almost like a classic NZ white wine but disguised as a beer.
Can't wait to get more of these for next summer (Posted on 25/11/2016)

  • Tasy Pale Ale
