Thornbridge describe themselves as a "collaboration of innovation, passion and knowledge" and they are spot on. Their beers are not pasteurised or filtered and are the epitomy of raw craft beer at its finest. Jaipur is their most well known but the rest of the range really stands up to the test too. Beer Hawk loves their beer! Wild Swan is crisp and subtly bitter, with notes of zesty lemon, herbal hoppiness and a little sweet grain. Light-bodied and refreshing, this delicate pale ale from the multi award-winning Thornbridge Brewery is decidedly easy drinking at only 3.5% ABV.

Brewery Info

A forerunner of the British craft beer movement, Thornbridge Brewery was started in the grounds of the eponymous Thornbridge Hall in the heart of the Peak District. Aiming to make a range of cask beers with a modern twist, they’ve won over 350 national and international awards - pretty good going for what started out as a tiny 10-barrell brewery.

A couple of interesting facts for you - the co-founder of Brewdog actually started out at Thornbridge back in the day, helping to create Thornbridge’s flagship IPA Jaipur, and in 2014 Thornbridge won “Best Drinks Producer” in the BBC Good Food Awards….beating Brewdog to the top spot. Although they’re seen as a more traditional brewer, Thornbridge also has a good mix of ‘new’ creations making them a firm favourite with us.

Not their best

Acceptable, but far from this brewer’s best (though even their worst is probably most others’ best.)
Refreshing beer

Maybe it's the weather, maybe it's the Friday night feeling after knocking off from work, maybe it's just a good beer? I find this little cheeky number rather pleasent. Definitely on the side of citrus, very light and refreshing. In no way shape or form is a complex flavour, this for me is worth having in the fridge for when I'm half way between a brew and a soft drink.
Bit boring

Pours very light gold. Very clear. A light head that fades fast. Thin, cakey malt aromas. Light lemon zest. Very, very diluted orange squash. Very gentle grapefruit. Taste is off-sweet with a citric bite. Pulls at the cheeks a little. Some grapefruit sharpness. Snappy bitterness. Cream cracker malts. Medium length in finish with lasting tang. Fine carbonation. Light mouthfeel. Not bad.

Mild smell of wheat, coriander. Pale lemon colour, high white head. Aroma of coriander, wheat, grain, some sugar. Mildly sweet. Half witbier, half pale ale. Lively carbon. Light body.
