  • stout for royals

    Review by rik

an amazing stout and good intro for those who see stout as irish or old men. (Posted on 19/02/2018)

  • solid almost-imperial stout

    Review by lenoz

This is nice, a well-rounded roasty warming stout that delivers on flavour and body. Wouldn't necessarily call it imperial at this strength but a good strong stout nonetheless. (Posted on 30/01/2018)

  • Plain lovely

    Review by David

A wonderful dark and rich beer with a mouthfeel that lingers on after the last sip. This is an exceptional beer. (Posted on 29/01/2018)

  • Wasted Potential...

    Review by Edward

Despite Thornbridge's stellar reputation, this is a rather lacklustre interpretation of an imperial stout. Rather thin, and with a lower ABV than the best examples, this brew is both too tame to be intriguing and too boring to drink by the barrel-load... (Posted on 26/01/2018)

  • Treacle and chocolate in a glass

    Review by Mike

A rich, dark beer with a lot going on. Roast caramel flavours with a very bitter finish. (Posted on 21/01/2018)

    Review by Marit

Dark smooth coffee imperial Russian stout. Easy-drinking, but little on the thin side. Don’t get the smoke or peat – misses depth (Posted on 19/12/2017)

  • A stout stout.

  • Don't go 'Russian' this one...

    Review by Llamaman

I'm almost getting bored of lauding Thornbridge beers, but it's no more than they deserve.
Rich, smooth, notes of chocolate and coffee and more bitterness than I'm used to in the style.
Good value too. (Posted on 02/05/2017)

  • Another cracker from Thornbridge.

    Review by Snapey

Robust in flavour, pours dark black with creamy tan head that lingers, rich chocolate flavour that mellows to coffee aftertaste, slight sweetness and smokiness. A bit too easy to drink for a 7.4% but that is in no way a complaint. (Posted on 29/04/2017)

  • Luscious Espresso

    Review by baz_the_barn

Thornbridge keep up their consistently high standards with this - very smooth, nice froth on the head, roast chocolate flavours. (Posted on 13/11/2016)

  • Study stout

    Review by Beerman

Top class stout with plenty of the favour, smooth on the tongue. You can't go wrong with this and a good price of a 500ml bottle (Posted on 13/05/2016)

  • Dark, rich and potent

    Review by Kiwi Duncan

An excellent wintry-evening beer - yet still good when chilled on a hot day; this is for when you want big, bold coffee and dark chocolate notes with a hint of smokiness. Lovely mouth feel and finish - rich, but not overly so. Another classy dark beer from Thornbridge! (Posted on 11/05/2016)

    Review by Johnny

Black colour with a tan head. Aroma has chocolate, coffee and toffee, great balanced aroma. Taste is caramel, coffee and liquorice with a dark fruitiness. (Posted on 22/04/2016)

  • Not quite what I expected...

    Review by James

Hoppy and floral. Not what I expected at all. Prefer my IRS’ to be more robust. Bit of a shame. still high quality and it at least gets my respect for that (Posted on 06/04/2016)

  • A brawler

    Review by Mittyrod

A cheap priced imperial stout that packs a punch. Pours black with big coffee and sweet chocolate flavour. Ending with a nice creamy finish (Posted on 30/03/2016)

  • Quality RIS

    Review by OldIron

This is a really good Imperial. Strong taste, dark, and with hints of smokiness and bitter finish. The strength is on the low side for an imperial, but the favlour and texture don't lack. (Posted on 26/02/2016)

  • A superb beer!

    Review by BJ 53

A really first class stout that anyone who likes the style will not be disappointed with. Strong - yes - but so it should be. Consistently good for years. (Posted on 15/01/2016)

  • Russian to buy some moe

    Review by Jack Swans

Archetypal Imperial Russian Stout. It seems impossible for Thornbridge to make an ordinary beer. This is one for any Tear. (Posted on 10/02/2015)

  • Imperious

    Review by Jack Swans

Thornbridge excellence shines through the dark body of this super Russian Imperia. This style is set growing, or should say, recovering in the UK and it is easy to see why when it is compared to the false stouts and porters of more famous brands. (Posted on 10/02/2015)

  • A taste of Russia

    Review by Tavern Wench

What a beer this is! My first imperial stout was not a disappointer!
Jet black with a tan coloured head. Very good retention and small bubbles.
The aroma is addictive. Beautiful chocolate and coffee malts with some cherry notes. Quite smoky.
The taste is a bang of coffee with a dark sweet undertone, leading into a smoky alcoholic finish. Medium-bodied and very smooth on the palate. Carbonation is not intrusive at all but far from flat. (Posted on 02/02/2015)
