Beer Hawk favourites Thornbridge have piled a metric TONNE of mangoes into two thousand litres of their classic Imperial IPA Halcyon for the fourth release in their Year of Beer calendar.
Looking in the glass like a schoolkid's carton drink, Mango Halcyon delights the senses with a heady perfume of ripe tropical pulp, followed by a gentle viscous body of fruit with a light opulent vapour thanks to the generous ABV.
Never ones to over-do it, Thornbridge seem to nail style and craze one after another without breaking their stylish step. We don't have many bottles and the brewery themselves sold out in a flash, so grab them before it's too late!
A forerunner of the British craft beer movement, Thornbridge Brewery was started in the grounds of the eponymous Thornbridge Hall in the heart of the Peak District. Aiming to make a range of cask beers with a modern twist, they’ve won over 350 national and international awards - pretty good going for what started out as a tiny 10-barrell brewery.
A couple of interesting facts for you - the co-founder of Brewdog actually started out at Thornbridge back in the day, helping to create Thornbridge’s flagship IPA Jaipur, and in 2014 Thornbridge won “Best Drinks Producer” in the BBC Good Food Awards….beating Brewdog to the top spot. Although they’re seen as a more traditional brewer, Thornbridge also has a good mix of ‘new’ creations making them a firm favourite with us.
