Brewed to celebrate ten years of Thornbridge, Jaipur X is a force to be reckoned with. The normal version of Jaipur is pretty compulsive stuff anyway (the term 'Jaipoorly' was coined to describe how you feel the morning after unwisely sinking pints of it), but for the brewery's tenth anniversary the good folk at Thornbridge decided to whack the ABV up to 10% for this special double IPA version! A huge, resinous beer full of tropical fruit, melon and peach notes, there's a touch of alcohol sweetness and a definite warming sensation as it goes down. Lovely.

Brewery Info

A forerunner of the British craft beer movement, Thornbridge Brewery was started in the grounds of the eponymous Thornbridge Hall in the heart of the Peak District. Aiming to make a range of cask beers with a modern twist, they’ve won over 350 national and international awards - pretty good going for what started out as a tiny 10-barrell brewery.

A couple of interesting facts for you - the co-founder of Brewdog actually started out at Thornbridge back in the day, helping to create Thornbridge’s flagship IPA Jaipur, and in 2014 Thornbridge won “Best Drinks Producer” in the BBC Good Food Awards….beating Brewdog to the top spot. Although they’re seen as a more traditional brewer, Thornbridge also has a good mix of ‘new’ creations making them a firm favourite with us.

Taking the flagship to a new level

Love a Jaipur, was my original introduction to UK IPA, from the brewers that taught pretty much everybody else and this takes the old school IPA to a new level.

Still lovely and clear, well balanced and manages that trickiest of all things making a 10% IPA that isn't too sweet and has just the right ibu.

So glad I bought 5, love this 10 year homage.

Jaipur was my first introduction to IPA 7 or 8 years ago, and Thornbridge are still one of my favourite breweries.
A more traditional Imperial IPA, with piney resinous notes, really well balanced and hides the 10% abv well, too well maybe.
Bought the 5 @ £3.60, which is about right for this 330ml bottle. There are better beers if you want to spend £4.49

Sherbet Lemon

Pours pale and cloudy with incredibly thin head. Aromas of tropical fruit. Sweet and sour taste with caramel and citrus, surprisingly lightly hopped. Aftertaste is like a sherbet lemon!
