This was brewed in honour of Eldon Hole, one of the seven wonders of the Peak District, and is fitting in its splendour! Pouring dark and dense, delicious aromas here of roasted malt, caramel, cacao, dried fruit and a hint of coffee. On the taste you have caramel, chocolate, and coffee with subtle kicks of vanilla and oak. A surprisingly tussle between sweet and bitter, and some complex dark fruit flavours. This is perfect for blowing away the winter cobwebs!

Brewery Info

A forerunner of the British craft beer movement, Thornbridge Brewery was started in the grounds of the eponymous Thornbridge Hall in the heart of the Peak District. Aiming to make a range of cask beers with a modern twist, they’ve won over 350 national and international awards - pretty good going for what started out as a tiny 10-barrell brewery.

A couple of interesting facts for you - the co-founder of Brewdog actually started out at Thornbridge back in the day, helping to create Thornbridge’s flagship IPA Jaipur, and in 2014 Thornbridge won “Best Drinks Producer” in the BBC Good Food Awards….beating Brewdog to the top spot. Although they’re seen as a more traditional brewer, Thornbridge also has a good mix of ‘new’ creations making them a firm favourite with us.

Great stout

Pitch black coloured with a huge beige head. Roasted aroma of caramel and coffee with notes of coffee and vanilla. Roasted flavour of caramel, chocolate and coffee with notes of licorice, hops and vanilla. Roasted finish. Nice balanced, and not too sweet-

A high ABV bourbon stout might be expected to be a huge beer, but this is a more nuanced affair. Very smooth, with a silky mouthfeel, there are subtle notes of chocolate and coffee but it doesn't take your head off.
The ABV is completely hidden, so could be dangerous to have more than one!
