Thornbridge describe themselves as a "collaboration of innovation, passion and knowledge" and they are spot on. Their beers are not pasteurised or filtered and are the epitomy of raw craft beer at its finest. Jaipur is their most well known but the rest of the range really stands up to the test too. Beer Hawk loves their beer! Named after the wisest and most civilised of the centaurs in Ancient Greek mythology, Chiron is a well-balanced pale ale. Pouring golden and bright with a floral aroma, flavours of juicy apricot and tangy orange are layered over biscuity malts. With a light bitterness and crisp, dry finish, it's no surprise that this zesty pale ale has become a firm part of Thornbridge's core range.

Brewery Info

A forerunner of the British craft beer movement, Thornbridge Brewery was started in the grounds of the eponymous Thornbridge Hall in the heart of the Peak District. Aiming to make a range of cask beers with a modern twist, they’ve won over 350 national and international awards - pretty good going for what started out as a tiny 10-barrell brewery.

A couple of interesting facts for you - the co-founder of Brewdog actually started out at Thornbridge back in the day, helping to create Thornbridge’s flagship IPA Jaipur, and in 2014 Thornbridge won “Best Drinks Producer” in the BBC Good Food Awards….beating Brewdog to the top spot. Although they’re seen as a more traditional brewer, Thornbridge also has a good mix of ‘new’ creations making them a firm favourite with us.

Middling APA
Review by
Possibly my least favourite Thornbridge; decent enough APA, but not especially memorable for me, certainly not compared to Jaipur. Both can be bought in my local Morrisons; I get tons of Jaipur and much less of this. But it’s still preferable to 90% of the beer they offer in the supermarket.

Not bad as a session beer, but nothing special
Really nice

A small bottle but a great beer - which is what I'd expect from a classic brewery. Would buy again.
Decent brew

Decent beer, much than the Jupior. Probably not a beer I'd buy again as there are better Pale Ales out there.
