We haven’t had a black IPA like this in a while. A deep rich brown pour with a thin tan head. Aromas here are of toasted coffee, a hint of liquorice, some spice and a touch of pine. That sweet liquorice is oh so subtle on the taste, with some toasted malt characters in the fore and a pleasant bitter hop quality balancing it all out. Really impressive stuff from Tempest Brewing Co, a great example of the style

330ml bottle, about a week before it's BB date. Pours black with a nice tan head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, pine with a bit of powdered chocolate in the background. Medium body. Taste of citrus hops, grapefruit, orange, hint of chocolate, dark malts, spices and pine. Slightly earthy. Nice bitterness on the finish, pithy yet roasty. Very complex and flavourful.

One of the first black IPAs I have tried from Beer Hawk. Interesting and complex stuff with notes maybe of tangerine and obvious coffee element. Worth the punt

Delivers the complexity you want from a black IPA. Dark fruit (blackberry) combined with piney hops (it's a fruits of the forest beer!) plus hints of coffee. Hides the ABV well.
