Siren Craft Brew have long extolled the virtues of a good coffee and with their Project Barista, they’ve been exploring and nurturing their joy of both coffee and beer with marvellous results. Working with the country’s finest baristas and showcasing the best beans money can buy, they’re really pushing the envelope in terms what beer can be. Breakfast Shake is a classic coffee stout with a twist: they’ve chucked in a good portion of wheat which gives it some serious body and throws banana and clove into the mix. There’s dark chocolate, a subtle nuttiness and some coffee acidity on the nose. Sipping brings a light spiciness, clove, roasted malts, nuts and a mild sweetness. It’s all balanced perfectly and if this sort of thing sounds like your sort of thing, you need to get your hands on it! Wake up and smell the coffee!
Siren Craft Brew don’t do boring. Even among the core range, usually reserved for the more ‘commercial’ beers, includes a 6% breakfast stout, a red IPA and Calypso, a Berliner-style sour beer. (What a wonderful beery world we live in). But this is a brewery that doesn’t know how to stop – there’s a huge range of seasonal, experimental and collaborative beers, the best of which we’re lucky enough to stock.
Yet, underpinning the whole operation is the ethos that beer should be exciting and enjoyed in the same way as fine wines, yet balanced and drinkable. It has been a remarkable journey since founder Darron Anley started the brewery in 2012, and we can’t wait to see where it will go next.
