Siren Agua de Sapo

Siren Agua de Sapo

Style Brown and Amber Ale
Country British Beers
ABV 5.8%
Serving Temp No
Bottle Size 330ml
Beer never fails to surprise us. Agua de Sapo from Siren Craft Brew, a brewery we file under ‘always interesting’, is a beer that takes flavours of ginger and lemon wraps it up in a 5.8% brown ale. It is based on Agua de Sapo, a popular light and refreshing soft drink from Costa Rica (guess where the brewer of this beer comes from) made from, yes, lemon and ginger. While the ginger is discernible on the nose, it’s the hoppy citrus notes that come through straight away. Drinking this effervescent beer it is the ginger that comes through more, but never dominates it, focussing instead on drinkability. Agua de Sapo means frog water, probably a nod to its muddy colour. It’s may not be pretty to look at, but it’s very tasty. One for a hot summer’s day.

Product Reviews

  • Not bad

    Review by Jo

Medium brown colour, hazy, ginger, grapefruit and spicy (Chinese five-spice?) aroma, medium crisp mouthfeel, hoppy, malty, ginger and lime flavour, sweet, ginger aftertaste. (Posted on 27/07/2017)

  • Perfect Christmas Ale

    Review by Daniel

This brown ale is warm and full bodied with a sweet ginger bread finish. I had this in June but couldn't help but feel this would be perfect over the festive period. (Posted on 04/06/2017)

  • Interesting, but flawed

    Review by Beer Enthusiast

What flavour there is, and there isnt much, brings ginger, lemon, and brown sugar, but the overall effect is like an old boiled sweet that has had most of the flavour sucked out (Posted on 01/04/2017)

  • Interesting... [strokes chin...]

    Review by Llamaman

I can't quite decide if this is genuinely innovative brilliance or just a bizarre novelty beer. Unfortunately I didn't order a second to find out!
After the citrus nose, the main taste is bitter ginger, offset by the sweetness of the cane sugar. Luckilly, the sugar isn't overdone. The combination of gentle sweetness plus the strong flavour of ginger root almost drowns out the underlying beer but not quite. The aftertaste is bitter ginger. It tastes a lot like an 'adult' soft drink - and whether I actually like that, I haven't decided yet after 3/4 of the bottle. (Posted on 20/03/2017)
