Nogne Imperial Stout

Nogne Imperial Stout

The name Nøgne Ø means 'naked island', a poetic term used by Henrik Ibsen to describe any of the countless stark, barren outcroppings that are visible in the rough sea off Norway's southern coast. Nøgne Ø's subtitle - 'The Uncompromising Brewery' - is a plain statement of their mission to craft ale of highest quality, personality and individuality.
Style Stout
Country Norwegian Beers
ABV 9.00%
Serving Temp 6 to 8°C
Bottle Size 500ml

Dark, rich and intense—the Nogne Ø Imperial Stout is sure to please even the most demanding of Russian Tsars. The brewers use Columbus and Crystal hops, an English ale yeast, and local Norwegian water to make this opulently intense Imperial Stout.

Even at first glance, with its dark brown colour and frothy head, the richness of the beer is apparent. Aromas of wood, spice, smoke, chocolate and tobacco are followed up by dried fruits as the beer has a chance to warm. Bittersweet flavours are balanced perfectly whilst its viscous mouthfeel and creamy carbonation are contrasted nicely by a clean, dry finish that lingers on and on.

Another monster from the Nordics. Everything you want in a dark stout and with 500ml to boot. When the wife asks "how many bottles?" no need to get creative. (Posted on 02/01/2018)

  • Delicioius and Rich

    Review by Tim

Pours with a lovely thick brownish off white head. The stout is almost completely black in colour. Aroma is of smoke and chocolate with flavours of coffee coming through. Taste is rich and smooth with chocolate and spice flavours. Very good stout. (Posted on 24/05/2017)

  • Luxurious stout

    Review by Danny Bot

There is nothing I don't like about this beer. Can't dispute the other reviews either. Lovely mouthfeel, slick & oily, rich roasty flavours on the nose as well as the palate. Pricey, yet very well put together, as all things Scandinavian seem to be (apart from the flat pack furniture perhaps) (Posted on 03/05/2017)

This is my first Norwegian beer and although expensive it was worth every penny of its high price tag. Deep chocolate and vanilla flavours abound along with subtle spice hints. (Posted on 10/06/2016)

Class as always from Norway. Rich and smokey. (Posted on 29/03/2016)

  • Wonderful

    Review by Jonny

Goddamn, this is one seductive Imperial Stout. Midnight black pour with brown suds. Dark chocolate, roasted malt, and subtle dark fruit aromas. Tastes like bittersweet chocolate, blackened barley, and toasted (alcohol) sugar. Balance is fantastic; not too much booze, not too much coffee-like bitterness - yet, a high amount of each. (Posted on 04/02/2016)

    Review by glyn

Didn't think anything could be on par with the brooklyn chocolate stout, but this bad boy certainly is.A very enjoyable stout.I found this to be a bit on the pricey side.a pleasant stout with a very strong 9% abv will have this again. (Posted on 27/10/2015)

  • Top of the class.

    Review by Matt

Don\'t look at the price of this bottle. Just remember this is probably one of the best stout\'s that is out there at the moment. Dark, thick, full of flavour and a alcohol rating that screams \'don\'t drink me and drive\'.
Buy this bottle and you won\'t be disappointed. (Posted on 27/09/2015)

  • Buckle up your seat belts

    Review by Llamaman

A huuuuuuuge beer, this. Great body and mouthfeel, and massive flavours of coffee, chocolate, vanilla ,spice and of course malt.
One of the best stouts I\'ve ever tried. Feels stronger than it is (and it\'s already pretty strong) because it\'s such a heady experience.
It\'s not a cheap beer, but it\'s worth it. Treat yourself. (Posted on 06/09/2015)

  • A black bottle of Nordic awesomeness

    Review by interzen

At the risk of disappearing into a singularity of hyperbole, I'll say this: this is probably the best imperial stout out there. Bar none.

It's thick, it's black, it's got a veritable car crash of flavours and an ABV that borders on an octane rating. To top that of, the drinkability almost defies description - it really is that good.

Sure, it's expensive, but this is one to savour - easily the best of the Nogne Ø range, and that's saying something. (Posted on 28/08/2015)

  • Like bitter bark chocolate

    Review by Markiemark

This beer was a little too bitter for me. It does have deep flavours and is strong but the bitterness just spoiled it for me (Posted on 14/05/2015)

  • GOOD GOD o_0

    Review by Ay Pee Horne

Rich, thick, smokey and smooth. Loads of sweet, dark chocolate, with vanilla and roasted spices. Absolutely scandalous. (Posted on 18/01/2015)
