The name Nøgne Ø means 'naked island', a poetic term used by Henrik Ibsen to describe any of the countless stark, barren outcroppings that are visible in the rough sea off Norway's southern coast. Nøgne Ø's subtitle - 'The Uncompromising Brewery' - is a plain statement of their mission to craft ale of highest quality, personality and individuality.

Dark, rich and intense—the Nogne Ø Imperial Stout is sure to please even the most demanding of Russian Tsars. The brewers use Columbus and Crystal hops, an English ale yeast, and local Norwegian water to make this opulently intense Imperial Stout.

Even at first glance, with its dark brown colour and frothy head, the richness of the beer is apparent. Aromas of wood, spice, smoke, chocolate and tobacco are followed up by dried fruits as the beer has a chance to warm. Bittersweet flavours are balanced perfectly whilst its viscous mouthfeel and creamy carbonation are contrasted nicely by a clean, dry finish that lingers on and on.

Another monster from the Nordics. Everything you want in a dark stout and with 500ml to boot. When the wife asks "how many bottles?" no need to get creative.
