Real Ale

CAMRA Real AleExactly what is real ale?  It’s a tough question but one that has raged in the world of beer for 50 odd years!

Real ale was a term coined by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) in the early 70s in response to a sweeping movement toward mass market beer production.  The founders of CAMRA detested this industrialization and in an attempt to fight back needed to define the beer they loved so they could castigate the rest. They settled on the definition “beer brewed from traditional ingredients, matured by secondary fermentation in the container from which it is dispensed, and served without the use of extraneous carbon dioxide".

Whether you like the definition or not Real Ale soon came to stand as the benchmark for great beer and CAMRA became a hugely successful campaigning organisation.  This strict definition has come under pressure recently as newer brewing methods have developed that fall foul of the definition but the brewers claim are still really good beers.  Whether it is right or wrong, “Real Ale” still stands as the most common definition of great beer used in everyday discussion.

My order was supposed to be delivered within 3 working days. It is now over that and other than the initial order confirmation and taking my money, I have received no correspondence from Beer Hawk, or my order. I have contact Beer Hawk by email three times on two different email addresses but each time have just received a blank email back; I have messaged on Facebook and left a post on their Facebook page; and I have sent a message via a PayPal dispute, but have received absolutely nothing back from them. My order was a birthday present for this Sunday, it is now Friday evening, so I guess that's not going to happen. I can only presume that the company is no longer trading, so I am now going to proceed in trying to recover my money.
Disgusted! Ordered an Advent calendar as an anniversary gift for my husband 6 weeks ago and trusted them to deliver on the specified date as they said. No sign of it or any message to say it will be coming. They took my money fast enough. I have emailed, sent messages through facebook and tried to ring all to no avail. I will be contacting Paypal for a refunbd but if you have any sense, stay well away, they are cowboys, you only need to read the reviews to see that.
Always a good service and variety of beers. Prices are competitive and have not had any issues with any of my purchases.
