Mad Hatter Toxteth IPA

Mad Hatter Toxteth IPA

Style IPA
Country British Beers
ABV 6.50%
Serving Temp 6 to 8 °C
Bottle Size 330ml

Brewing just outside Liverpool’s City Center, Mad Hatter Brewing Co. has been making a name for themselves since early 2013 with their inventive concoctions alongside rock-steady classics like this Toxteth IPA.

With a good dose of Simcoe and Amarillo hops American hop notes like citrus, mango, and passionfruit are prominent. A bready, nutty candy-sweet maltiness is balanced by a dry, bitter finish whilst its medium-body and slightly viscous mouthfeel make for a very nice IPA.

  1. 4.25
    Review by TonyL

A lovely thing. Again, perhaps not quite as bitter as some other IPAs. Would recommend. (Posted on 06/08/2017)

  2. Love it.
    Review by Mr Booze

That was a very competent IPA.

Not the strongest, slightly dry finish.

Will buy again. (Posted on 04/08/2017)

  3. Really enjoyed
    Review by Hat HerSelf

Very tasty... Lovely ipa =] (Posted on 21/07/2017)

  4. No Mad Hatter here
    Review by Marit

Fresh citrus aroma with grapefruit and oranges. Dry, crisp and lightly bitter taste with a lingering grapefruit finish. Slightly on the thin side and doesn't pack a boozy punch - which i want in an IPA. (Posted on 27/06/2017)

  5. My old stomping ground.
    Review by Rich

Biased towards Liverpool as I lived there for a while and love the place, but this is a good British IPA (Posted on 08/06/2017)

  7. Musty but well-flavoured
    Review by lenoz

A cloudy pour, and a smack of malt that unsurprisingly follows. Just verging on a touch too musty for my liking, but overall a good British IPA. (Posted on 25/04/2017)

  9. Hoppy IPA
    Review by Dave___

Should have let it settle standing upright as was a bit cloudy on the pour. Tastes nice and hoppy with a bitter aftertaste. Not my favorite but I'd drink another (Posted on 20/04/2017)

  12. Not mind blowing
    Review by KMH222

Citrus flavours and nicely bitter. Adequate but not the best IPA, not even in top 10. (Posted on 09/03/2017)

  13. A good bottle conditioned IPA.
    Review by BillyB

A good bottle conditioned IPA. Full of citrus aroma hop flavours and a good whack of bitterness. Bottle BBE 15/09/17. (Posted on 04/03/2017)

  15. Superb!
    Review by BeerSnob76

    What a great IPA!

Great fruit and juicy flavours with superbly balanced malt and bitterness, one of the best beers I've had recently! (Posted on 18/11/2016)

  16. Decent IPA
    Review by Uncruliar

This is a very drinkable IPA with a hint of citrus and a good piney finish. Personally I didn't detect any floral character as noted by some reviewers, which was a relief as it isn't a flavour profile I am too keen on. Strong enough to require a little respect but not so strong as to stop you enjoying a second bottle. (Posted on 27/08/2016)

Plenty of zesty hoppy citrus and lots of fruity undercurrents. If you like your IPAs then give it a go! (Posted on 11/05/2016)

Hoppy, fresh and a great finish. Smells great. (Posted on 29/03/2016)

  29. Nice IPA
    Review by Beer Baron

A good quality IPA. Didn't really stand out for me, but it's fresh and sharp. Watch out for the occasional amount of sludge at the bottom of the bottle - pour carefully! (Posted on 14/12/2015)

  30. Hats off
    Review by Tipple

A bit more restrained than the typical craft IPA obsession of hopping to hell and back. Light, refreshing and citrusy. More please. (Posted on 21/10/2015)

  31. The citrus sits right with us. Don't pine for the pine.
    Review by Llamaman

    Excuse the awful title. :)
A really good IPA. Strength-wise it sits between a normal beer and a double, but in flavour it's heading towards the latter.
Intriguingly though, my main impression was not of the usual pine cone character (although it is there), but one of lemony citrus.
Pleasantly surprising and a really refreshing palate-cleansing brew. (Posted on 20/10/2015)

  32. Bang for your buck!
    Review by Mr Egg White

This is a big hoppy ipa with plenty of flavour! It has a very long finish and tasty hops I would live to see them do a double of this!
