Left Hand Brewing Milk Stout

Left Hand Brewing Milk Stout

Style Stout
Country American Beers
ABV 6%
Serving Temp 10-12 °C
Bottle Size 330ml

The Milk Stout is Beer Hawk's staff-favourite of all the Left Hand beers! It is legendary outside of the confines of our office having received the 2013 gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in the Sweet or Cream Stout category. Dark and beautiful and smooth and creamy, this full-bodied milk stout bears flavours of roasted malts, milk chocolate, and that ever-present lactose sweetness which gives this beer its name. Its semi-dry finish and a solid bitterness prevent it from getting too heavy and it is, indeed, a very pleasant drink.

Left Hand Brewing has been going from strength to strength for the past 20 years and made the Brewers Association’s Top 50 Craft Brewers list in 2012. Expanding and growing like never before, a new super-fast bottling line has helped the brewery meet demand and get their beers on over here to us!

    Review by Scott

It's absolutely lovely stuff!! Well worth buying! (Posted on 19/08/2017)

  • Fave milk stout

    Review by Supping Sam

The summary says it all, the flavour, the aroma and the texture. Are all delightful. If you're looking for a stout. This would be my first stop (Posted on 10/08/2017)

  • Good milk stout

    Review by DB

This is slightly sweet with a good flavour; it does not have the strong roasted barley flavour and bitterness of non milk stouts. (Posted on 24/07/2017)

  • Smoothness defined

Liquid chocolate and cream gateaux bottled - beautiful. 8.5/10 (Posted on 24/07/2017)

  • Great milk stout

    Review by James

Everything you could want from a milk stout - smooth, creamy, roasty and slightly sweet. At this strength it doesn't have a super-deep complexity. But instead it's an easy drinker. Highly recommend. (Posted on 28/06/2017)

  • Left hand milk stout.

    Review by Gary

Sweet creamy from the lactose pours black with a tan head. (Posted on 20/06/2017)

  • Loved this milk stout

    Review by Simon

I enjoy the odd stout so thought I would try an American offering. This one seemed to have good reviews and I can confirm that it is excellent, I would recommend this. My daughter is partial to stout and she really enjoyed this saying it was better than Brewdog's Jet Black Heart. This beer is rich, smooth, slightly sweet with a nice chocolate overtone. (Posted on 31/05/2017)

  • Good

    Review by Ben

A good bear and a nice little milk stout however I feel it lacks the wow factor. Still pretty solid though. (Posted on 21/05/2017)

Decent enough but not one i would rave about. (Posted on 21/05/2017)

I'm a big fan of smooth slightly sweet stouts and this is my favourite of the style, and possibly my favourite canned/bottled stout full stop (Posted on 13/05/2017)

  • Great tasting stout

    Review by Matt

Great tasting stout this. very smooth, and got a lovely milky aftertaste. Let it warm up a bit out of the fridge first before you drink it (Posted on 12/05/2017)

Despite the instructions Left Hand I tried it using my right hand and still found it to be a most
    acceptable brew. (Posted on 09/05/2017)

  • Did nor live up to expectations

    Review by Lancastrian Bluenose

After all the good reviews this was disappointing.
Flat and insipid : perhaps because the best by date was May 2017 ?
    Not especially flavoursome either.

  • best milk stout

    Review by Tam

Even better than normal milk stout! (Posted on 13/12/2016)

  • Classic milk stout

    Review by MH

This is a great representation of a sweet milk stout. There’s enough roasted flavor from the malts to give it a bit of chocolate/cocoa bite, but it’s all dominated by the milk sugar, which leaves it moderately sweet and reasonably full bodied. (Posted on 05/12/2016)

  • The Nitro version is better

    Review by MattO75

Bought this and the Nitro version to side by side. Enjoyed them both but preferred the Nitro because of nicer mouth feel due to the smaller bubbles. Would have given this 4 and Nitro 4.5 stars if I could. (Posted on 14/11/2016)

  • Milk but no cream

    Review by Birky

Review by change from a 10

Got this for my dad for fathers day.

He said it reminded him of the old milk stouts they had in his day so wasn't overwhelmed by it.

Very creamy good milk stout. (Posted on 08/10/2016)

  • Enjoyed this!

    Review by Bancini

Richly thick cream and chocolate flavours in this lovely stout. Sweet without becoming cloying. Better than the nitro version. (Posted on 21/08/2016)

  • Left Hand Brewery Club

    Review by The Dark Elixir

I first tried this awesome Stout in Las Vegas on my Honeymoon and it was on tap at a Bar in the Container Park Downtown.
Its probably the best stout I have ever tasted, balanced milk chocolate, notes of roasted coffee which delivers this smooth sweet taste.
I love it and I have been buying it regularly ever since!
In fact I like all the Left Hand Brewery Beers!
The Sawtooth Nitro is awesome aswell, when are you guys going to get some in stick? (Posted on 31/05/2016)

  • Fantastic Milk Stout

    Review by UTB

Definitely able to tell the difference between this CO2 conditioned and the N2 conditioned Nitro. But the flavour is still the same. Fantastic Milk Stout, leaves you wanting more!! (Posted on 24/04/2016)

  • The Sgt Milko Of Milk Stouts

    Review by berkfromtrapdoor

A milk stout, with a twist of sweetness! Not as creamy as others out there, but nice and roasty flavours, and a chocolatey kick to make you quaff this bottle in ten minutes! Try and make it last longer! (Posted on 06/03/2016)

  • Very Nice Milk Stout

    Review by Joshie

Thick, tasty, sweet stout. Lovely coffee and chocolate flavours.
The main thing stopping me from giving it 5 stars is that I drank the nitro version alongside it, and it's even better! (Posted on 18/02/2016)

  • Nice

    Review by Jamsmatalans

It's sweet but not too sweet. Very drinkable. (Posted on 08/02/2016)

  • Milky milky

    Review by Llamaman

A very nice milk stout. Stays just the right side of too sweet and delivers enough complexity to prevent it being one dimensional. I actually prefer it to the Nitro. (Posted on 28/01/2016)

  • Sublime

    Review by SE10

Everything a milk stout should be, cream, coffee & chocolate all combined into a very moreish drink. I doff my hat to you, the brewer. (Posted on 19/01/2016)

  • Sunday breakfast beer

    Review by MeanGreen

I love a milk stout for breakfast. Who doesn\'t?! I save them for special occasions and this milk stout did not disappoint. Medium body with intense notes of coffee and chocolate. I wanted to side by side compare with the Nitro but it was sold out. Squad goals for 2016. (Posted on 16/01/2016)

  • A fantastic example of a milk stout

    Review by Adam Hooker

Absolutely terrific example of a milk stout from Left Hand Brewing.

Fantasticly roasty with coffee flavours, but creamy at the same time. Hint of sweetness, but not too much. A must try.

I should point out, my 4 stars is because I am not a huge lover of darker beers and have only given one a 5 ever. I would put this in the top 5 stouts and porters I have tasted. (Posted on 12/01/2016)

  • Enjoyable.

    Review by MrI

One of my new favourite beers. Very tasty, nice level of sweetness, coffee and chocolate. (Posted on 05/09/2015)

  • Didn't quite do it

    Review by sb1206

Relatively strong, long of bitterness and rich from the roasted malts. Some creamy coffee notes, but overall lacks some depth/complexity. (Posted on 24/07/2015)

  • Average stout

    Review by Markiemark

A pleasant drink but not an inspiration. Not too sweet and ticks all the boxes if this is your sort of thing (Posted on 12/05/2015)

  • Nice but a little sweet

    Review by Rick c

Enjoyed but couldn't drink many got a little sickly after 3 bottles. (Posted on 09/04/2015)

  • great milk stout

    Review by wreck

Pours black with a tan head. Aromas of roasted malts and coffee. Really rich, creamy mouthfeel without being overly sweet. Coffee, cream, roasted malts, not much bitterness. Not as thick in the mouth as expected which makes for a really drinkable beer. Lovely stuff. (Posted on 09/04/2015)

  • Sweet

    Review by RachB

A delicious milk stout. Sweet but not cloying. Well balanced (Posted on 13/03/2015)

  • A sweet treat

    Review by tehhaz

Bought to wash down a chocolate dessert, this milk stout was a really treat. Sweet, not too heavy and very tasty, it even won the approval of the non stout drinkers at the dinner. (Posted on 22/02/2015)

  • 4 Star

    Review by CP

Great smooth taste. great balance. must be poured into a glass to allow full enjoyment of the texture and combination of flavours, and not consumed straight from the bottle. (Posted on 05/01/2015)

  • Didn't work for me

    Review by Rob J

I have to say this wasn't quite to my taste, it's a really interesting beer but a little sweet for me. (Posted on 03/01/2015)

  • lovely stout

    Review by bammers

Really like this milk stout, smooth and all the right balance of chocolate and bitterness, highly recommended (preferred it on draft, however the bottle is an excellent alternative) (Posted on 12/12/2014)

  • Like a thinner, boozier, Frijj milkshake.

    Review by Ay Pee Horne

Tasty, but the Brooklyn Brewery Chocolate Stout tops it.
Would certainly order again though. Has more of a dairy taste to it than the BB effort. Must get round to trying the nitro version. (Posted on 25/11/2014)

  • Left Hand Brewing at their best

    Review by Beer Hawk Tom

Overwhelmingly popular at Beer Hawk's recent Beer Tasting Evening, the Left Hand Milk Stout is Left Hand Brewing at their best. A really milky taste and texture, with strong flavours of coffee and chocolate. Hugely popular at Beer Hawk and definitely one of my favourite stouts that we stock. (Posted on 03/11/2014)
