Country American Beers

Bottle Size 355ml
Left Hand brewing from Colorado is the master of the dark beer – its flagship milk stout is one of the world’s best. This Foreign Export Stout, has won a fair few awards itself too. It’s rich in texture and flavour – liquorice, coffee, molasses – all compete with a down to earth hop balance. We pulled it out to drink with a salted caramel ice cream – perfect.

  • Liquiorice

    Review by Bruce

This is a great beer and it proves again that Left Hand really know the dark stuff. There is bitterness coming through from a liquorice taste and this is tempered with a sweetness like prunes or dates (Posted on 05/09/2017)

  • Blacker than black!

    Review by Mr T

Really good stout... viscous, oily, hoppy goodness! (Posted on 20/08/2017)

  • Middle of the road

    Review by Matthew

Not bad, but not the best either. (Posted on 18/08/2017)

  • Ace

    Review by AdyG

This is one hell of a stout. Smooth; creamy; great taste; buy one... (Posted on 08/08/2017)

  • Batch or Packaging?!

    Review by Edward

I've had this before. In a bottle. And it was absolutely incredible! Although still very good, this canned version falls significantly short of the superlative original. Either the (method of) canning has an effect or the recipe has changed/batch variation - and neither of these possibilities are particularly welcome!! (Posted on 02/08/2017)

  • Belter

    Review by Toad

Pretty good. I was expecting a black IPA. Has typical cocoa, coffee and a huge treacle flavour which dominates, some slightly bitter hops and burnt toast notes on the finish.

  • Lovely

    Review by Trott

Dark brown; big tan head. Molasses sweet and black rye bread bitter, some spiciness (cardamom?), moderate roastiness, fruity esters, considerable licorice aftertaste. Very soft, albeit a bit flat, on the palate. Dry, roasty finish. Nice! (Posted on 04/07/2017)

  • excellent

    Review by rik

robust strong heavy yet drinkable brew (Posted on 26/06/2017)

  • Worth a try

    Review by Beeeeeer

Very dark brown, motor oil in color with a short lived mahogany colored head. Toast and molasses with baking cocoa scented. Strong roasted malts, shoyu, dark coffee that was left in the pot too long, leather, mineral salt, black pepper. Nice feel. Mild spritz, bitter follow with burnt toast flavors. Decent. • Nice!

    Review by MARTYN

Almost black with medium brown head. Sweet aroma with umami notes. Medium bitterness with some sourness and roasted malt and umami notes

  • Black n Tan

    Review by Young_Team

This beers appearance is almost black, with a medium to small tanned head. Aroma is gives off coffee, chocolate, toast, nuts and caramel. Palate and finish is a medium body with some subtle bitterness on the end. (Posted on 10/04/2017)

  • Smokey!

    Review by Beebo

Near black tan head nose is milk chocolate taste chocolate lactose on a blind tasting would have said this was a sweet stout smooth and velvety. Some light smoke comes through later through the drink. (Posted on 09/04/2017)

  • Growing darkness taking dawn (Ed: is that a bad Metallica reference?)

    Review by Llamaman

Pours jet black with a head that, like life, it seems to fade away. (Ed: I'm on to you)
Rich, smooth mouthfeel with tastes of cocoa, molasses, vanilla. It's delicious, but it's also 8.5% so now I can't even think (Ed: weak, very weak).
I wish I'd ordered more - you could say I'm missing one inside of me (Ed: you're getting desperate now, son).
Now I will just say goodbye (Ed: OK, that's enough).

  • Class...

    Review by AdyG

Perfect. Left Hand are masters of this style. The bold flavours linger and the mouthfeel is ace (Posted on 27/02/2017)

  • Cracking...

    Review by MH

Black with an average tan head that leaves nice lacing. Aroma is rich with dark roasted malts, cocoa, anise, and cream. Taste is full of coffee, chocolate, cocoa, licorice, and vanilla cream. Thicker and lingering creamy flavors with licorice. (Posted on 27/01/2017)

  • Bold, very bold

    Review by Snapey

Poured ebony black with rich brown head which dissipated quickly, strong coffee smell, typical flavours of coffee and cocoa with hint of liqourice also comes through, hint of dark sugar sweetness but not overly.Being a strong stout makes it a good after dinner drink. (Posted on 20/01/2017)

  • Silky smooth

    Review by Good Head

Very silky smooth in taste with a typical stout flavour. (Posted on 18/01/2017)

  • Black beauty

    Review by AdyG

Black; bold; beautiful. This is a stout of distinction for sure. Put that Guinness can down and drink a real stout... (Posted on 13/01/2017)
