Ilkley turn out some stunning beers and they are simply one of the most exciting breweries in Britain at the moment. A claim all the more impressive given they were only re-established three years ago after a 100 year absence. The philosophy is to brew world class beers distinctive in style, flavour and character and when we say passionate about beer, we mean REALLY passionate! Winners of multiple awards and brewed with the best ingredients including water from The Yorkshire Dales, English malted barley and hops sourced from all over the world. This festive amber ale from Ilkley Brewery is packed with Christmas spices, with flavours of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, brown sugar and caramel throughout. Zesty orange, lemon and a good glug of Caribbean rum put the finishing touches to this Christmas cake in beer form.

Not a bad festive ale at all
Tries hard, not quite there

As others have said, a lot of interesting flavours are there - the dried vine fruit and citrus peel come through, along with the warming spices of cinnamon and nutmeg. But it's light-bodied and a bit watery and I didn't sense any of the rum. I guess they didn't want to make a huge Christmas beer in the Belgian style, but I'd love to try this brewed to a higher ABV and matured in rum casks. It has promise...
Not enough depth

Brilliant medium amber, good frothy off-white head, half-way lasting, spicy nose, aroma of malt, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, bit caramel, taste medium sweet and bitter, with some spice, sweetbitter aftertaste with lingering spices and caramel; light body, watery texture, soft carbonation; lacks body which is a pity.
Not my (our favourite)

I’ve preciously reviewed the larger bottle version of this, while this smaller bottle was drunk by a family member on Xmas day. Their review was much the same as mine: an ok beer that doesn’t quite match up to the claims made on its bottle for the flavour and aromas. But nice enough.
