The Japanese aren’t well known for their brewing prowess or their love for beer, but With 8 generations of experience brewing sake and an impressive approach to their craft, Hitachino aim to change perceptions. They import all their hops and malts from the west, but they aim to create a truly Japanese beer, melding western influence with the attention to detail and perfectionism characteristic of the Japanese. Their Nest Beer is a testament to their ever increasing skill. It pours dark amber (for a pale) and the aroma is biscuit malts with some grassy earthy hop aromas coming through as well. The flavour is sweet malts backed up by some pine and citrus. They’ve certainly flown the nest and this beer is a slice of exotic wrapped up in some good old home comforts. It is symbolic of the truly global nature of the craft beer revolution.
