A wit by way of Norway, yep. HaandBryggeriet are a great brewery situated in riverside city of Drammen and they are making some spectacular beers inspired by beers around the world but with their own twist on them. The Dobbel Wit is a Belgian-style wheat beer and has, in this case, the addition of coriander, a common addition to a wit. The real character of this beer comes through on the drinking with a distinct fruity sweetness tempered by the coriander. An easy drinking wit despite the ABV of 6%.

Brewery Info

Brewery Huyghe was founded in 1906 by Leon Huyghe, although brewing has taken place in the town of Melle, East Flanders since 1654. Huyghe’s best-known beers are their ‘Delirium’ range, instantly recognisable from the cavorting pink elephants on the label. Their signature offering Delirium Tremens is actually considered one of the best beers in the world, rating consistently highly on beer rating websites.

Brewery Huyghe are kings of innovation - their slogan ‘you ask, we’ll brew it’ encompasses their no-holds-barred brewing philosophy. They complement their core range with fruit beers, white beers, Abbey beers and even gluten-free beers, although the pink elephant will always be a firm favourite.

6% drinks like 0%

Such an easy drinking Wit beer. Completely forgot after a couple of sips that it was supposed to be 6%, such is the skill and quality of the brewing process. A classic Wit in taste, though maybe not as quite a punchy kick of fruit flavour underpinning the drink as I would like (big fan of Hoegaarden) but I would definitely recommend the beer and brewer. 2 of Haandbryggeriet's consumed last night, and tempted to try the rest of the range soon

Sweet banana and wheat. Light and refreshing. Distinctive yeast flavour combines well. Nice beer!
Coriander and beer don't mix

Those Norwegians have some strange tastes! A pleasant ale spoiled by the dry coriander. Have tried coriander ale before, hoped this would be better. It wasn't.
