Chocked full of Citra and Cascade hops, Scotland’s Fyne Ales Superior IPA is, well, pretty superior. Assertively bitter and bursting with tropical and citrus fruits we love its champagne-like finish.

Brewery Info

Fyne Ales was founded in 2001 by Jonny and Tuggy Delap after forced early retirement had them moving back to Tuggy's ancestral home and lands. Their aim was always to find a new purpose for the estate to create jobs, tourism and industry for Argyll. The idea of a brewery was mooted and sold, and so, 10BBL brew kit was installed in one of the old cattle sheds.

Fyne Ales started out as a traditional ale outfit, and they rapidly garnered local recognition. With the advent of the craft beer revolution, they started to branch out into craftier offerings starting with the American hopped Jarl. They moved into Belgian and American inspired farmhouse creations with their origins project, which sees them experimenting with mixed fermentation, barrel aging, locally sourced seasonal ingredients and weird and wonderful recipes.

Whatever you choose you can be sure it'll be a Fyne Ale!

One for special occasions

Not much head, but a good dark amber colour. Nose is hoppy, fruity, intense. Maybe a little bit tobacco? Palate is malty sweet AND bitter, great balance.
Tasty IPA

Deep amber with a decent cream head. Decent hop aroma. The taste has noce pine over caramel with some light spice. OK.

Aroma: grain and bread malts, honey, molasses, red fruits, light tropical fruits. Appearance: clear, dark gold, small, creamy, white head. Taste: light sweet. Palate: light floral hops, bitters coming up, tropical fruits again, some peach and mango, light grapefruit. Overall: very decent IPA, great aroma.
Ok but pricey

I do enjoy big bottles of strong IPAs. I saw this and bought it on a whim without having a great knowledge about the product.

It was perfectly tasty. I tend to prefer strong IPAs to be bigger on the bitter / citrus hoppy side though.

Despite it being carefully stored it went everywhere when opened so quite a lot was lost. Take care!
