Founders flagship beer, dark ruby in colour and brewed with ten varieties of imported malts. Dirty Bastard is complex in the finish with hints of smoke and peat paired with a malty richness

Despite its name, Founders Dirty Bastard is really, really nice. Scotch ales--of which the Dirty Bastard is one--can tend to be rather sweet and cloying, yet this one manages to somehow make its complex sweetness still rather drinkable. Flavours of toasted coconut, caramel, milk chocolate, smoke and peat are nicely balanced by a solid lingering bitterness. Its rich mouthfeel has a nice delicate carbonation that cleanses the palate and makes this amber-coloured Scotch Ale one of the best!

Brewing multi-award-winning beers from Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA--our beer sommelier's home state!--Founders Brewing has been pushing the limits of flavour and leading the American craft beer scene since 1997.

Brewery Info

Originally brewing middle-of-the-road beers for a wide and not-terribly-engaged audience, Founders realised that they’d have to change if they wanted to survive. They started making bold and complex beers instead, launching themselves to craft beer fame.

From coffee-infused Breakfast Stout, bourbon barrel-aged Backwoods Bastard and a 15% barleywine called Bolt Cutter, you can’t accuse Founders of being dull. As well as brews that push the boundaries, their lower abv. range is a more accessible introduction and includes the excellent All Day IPA.

Really nice dark 'scotch style' ale, not sure what a scotch style ale is but it is really nice, dark rich caramel sweetness

Nothing particularly special, but a perfectly fine, caramel-y beer.

Does not taste anywhere near as strong as it is

Really nice beer, really strong though it doesn't taste like it so tread carefully
