Flying Dog Raging Bitch

Flying Dog Raging Bitch

£3.49
Details
Flying Dog Brewery Gonzo journalist and long time friend of Flying Dog owner George Stranahan, Hunter S Thompson was a large influence on the creation of Flying Dog brand. The unique labels and branding are the work of artist co-conspirator Ralph Steadman.
Style IPA
Country American Beers
ABV 8.30%
Serving Temp 6-8 °C
Bottle Size 330ml
Described by the brewery as having "that hop bite from a big, bad American IPA with the banana and bubblegum from the Belgian yeast.” it's the much softer version of the Snake Dog made by the same brewery. That said it didn't avoid the scrutiny of the US authorities who banned the product for it's name deeming it “detrimental to the health, safety, or welfare of the general public.”! Taste is hoppy and orangey with floral notes on the nose. Fairly low carbonation.

Product Reviews

  • Not bad

    Review by Alex

Not the best IPA but still pleasantly drinkable (Posted on 27/11/2017)

  • Nothing Special

    Review by Bacchanalian

All mouth and no trousers. Fantastic name in which the beer in no way lives up too. Just a generic american ipa. There are many better options out there. (Posted on 23/11/2017)

  • Interesting but only ok

    Review by Jo

Deep amber colour, sweet citrus, yeasty, slightly spicy and bready aroma, medium to thick chalky, chewy mouthfeel, citrus, pine, malty and slightly yeasty flavour, dry, hoppy, bitter aftertaste. (Posted on 03/08/2017)

  • Meh

    Review by Tay

I cant say I get this style often, and if you dont either I dont recommend. (Posted on 31/07/2017)

  • Run of the mill

    Review by Danielh87

Nice hoppy notes, price point may be a bit steep for what it is though. Much better offerings at similar prices (Posted on 27/07/2017)

  • Flying Dog at their best

    Review by No1smudger

A great beer by Flying Dog, great taste and definitely one to buy. (Posted on 27/07/2017)

  • Good, but...

    Review by MrDeek

This beer is a really good and I would recommend it to anyone, I just think it's a bit over priced for what it is. (Posted on 22/06/2017)

  • Excellent!

    Review by Janewit

  • Good one!

    Review by Mart

Pours medium amber caramel with a thin white head residing. Scent is consistent caramel. Taste is what’s written on the tin. Nice Belgian style caramel strong ale with loads of early hops, around 70 IBU. Finish is smooth and dense of caramel. Great. (Posted on 09/05/2017)

  • Liked it didn't love it

    Review by Jim

Liked the beer, but I think there's better out there for your money (Posted on 26/04/2017)

  • Flying dog beautiful bitch

    Review by Garygph

Love this beer because I love wheat beer and I love IPA. This is like a mongrel breed. Love it.. (Posted on 05/04/2017)

  • Nothing special

    Review by Dead Derek

Ok beer - didn't like it anywhere near as much as their "snake dog" or even the session IPA. Not sure what the supposed Belgian quality was, but then again that's not an area I know much about. Possibly would have been better from a can? Not bad, drinkable, but I probably wouldn't order again at this price. (Posted on 02/04/2017)

  • Like it...

    Review by Beebo

Amber bit hazy with medium white head. Hoppy aroma with citrus notes. Good hoppy bitterness, somy yeasty notes, fruit notes and touch of sweet. Lasting strong bitterness. (Posted on 22/03/2017)

  • Amazing beer!

    Review by Nilly

LOVED this beer. The smell of it and taste are strong and delicious. (Posted on 09/02/2017)

  • I can't fault this

    Review by simontomlinson

Near beige creamy head stayed very well on a clear copper coloured still body.
Huge aroma of sweet orange & citrus - Smells fantastic.
Thick chewy texture. Smooth on the front - Crisp on the back.
Reasonably bitter tastes of grapefruit, clove, spice, yeast & marmalade - hints of malt. Near perfect IPA.

  • Careful it Bites

    Review by Ninja Terrier

The citrus aroma hits you in the face as you raise the glass to your mouth, then the malt and hops take over and ravage your throat as it slides down. This is one hell of a hard hitting brew. (Posted on 14/09/2016)

  • V nice

    Review by Ed

Not like american or british IPAs at all - but also not like Belgian beers either, although could taste the distinctive belgian yeast - very interesting beer to try but wont be to everyone's liking. (Posted on 30/08/2016)

  • Doesn't disappoint

    Review by No1smudger

Flying Dog Raging Bitch has not only a great name but a great taste. Powerful and impactful and it won't disappoint (Posted on 19/08/2016)

  • Great Beer

    Review by Vauban

Treat with respect - great hybrid of US and continent, that packs a punch. (Posted on 14/08/2016)

  • Far too hoppy

    Review by ChrisBaker108

I'm afraid that to my tastes the hops overwhelmed everything else. (Posted on 27/07/2016)

  • Nice

    Review by alanbullafc

Nice strength, nice colour and nice taste. (Posted on 21/07/2016)

  • Interesting, and it works

    Review by Alex

Very tasty, as described it's a good blend of IPA & Belgian flavour (Posted on 28/06/2016)

  • Packs a punch

    Review by Rockmaker

Lovely. Matches or exceeds many of the IPA's that are going on sale in British pubs for £7 or more. Great value for such e refreshing, strong and bitter/sweet beer. (Posted on 28/05/2016)

  • Happy B*&%h

    Review by Fyfie

Slight citrus aroma then initial taste gives you a nice sweetness from the yeast quickly followed by a lingering bitterness. Would happily buy this again. (Posted on 23/05/2016)

  • solid but underwhelming

Review by change from a ten

Was a nice brew that was very drinkable despite strength but expected more flavour from a Belgium style beer." (Posted on 19/05/2016)

  • Good

    Review by Ben

A bit of an acquired taste, and certainly not for everyone, but always a great beer to finish a night with. (Posted on 08/05/2016)

  • A beutiful high abv malt rocket! Be prepared

    Review by Beer buddy

Simply stunning example of a high abv ale. It's malty like and English ale with hints of toffee and oak. Extremely potent and full of flavour that lingers long after. Drink by a fire listening to blues. If only all beers could be this good. (Posted on 23/04/2016)

  • Decent

    Review by Ole

Not as hoppy as mentioned in the reviews, very malty and all in all decent but not up there. (Posted on 29/03/2016)

  • yeeeee dawgy

    Review by Wilhelm

surprisingly (perhaps dangerously) drinkable for such a high percentage beer. great beer to both unwind and party with. (Posted on 17/03/2016)

  • Son of a bitch

    Review by Blind Drunk

With some high alcohol beers the flavor is lost and all you get is a nasty alcohol taste, thankfully this little beauty takes a page of the Belgium book and manages to have a very pleasant taste to go along with the punch. (Posted on 30/11/2015)

  • Treat gently

    Review by LoneR

This beer goes down too easy for the strength! Rich, slight syrup but tasty. One now and again for a treat me thinks.... (Posted on 15/08/2015)

  • Raging Bitch

    Review by WJA

Very good, lived up to the name. (Posted on 14/08/2015)

  • An old favourite...

    Review by ZDT

Hoppy American beer with a slight hint of Belgium - and a great name! (Posted on 10/08/2015)

  • IPA with a twist

    Review by wreck

Deep clear copper with a bright white head. Sweet malty base, with crisp bitter hops, and a spicy Belgian twist. Works really well. Good stuff. (Posted on 06/08/2015)

Very good, wil be having again! (Posted on 16/06/2015)

  • Bitchin' Ale

    Review by Ay Pee Horne

Deliciously spicy Belgian yeast and plenty of hops. Oddly refreshing for something with such a high ABV. Very bitter, with a dry finish. Would order again. (Posted on 06/06/2015)

  • One of the best

    Review by kc

Citrus, hoppy, one for the chilling out. One of the best I've ordered, re-ordered and ordered again. (Posted on 23/05/2015)

  • Oh Dear

    Review by Jackanakanory

I know it says belgian style IPA but it tasted like a white beer, not my cup of tea at all and I struggled to finish it (Posted on 13/04/2015)

  • Great American style IPA

    Review by Slapbang

Aroma is very citrusy, hints of maltiness, plenty of hops. Tastes of bitter grapefruit, slightly sweet, bitter and dry. Nice. (Posted on 12/04/2015)

  • Sweet Belgian beer meets Amercian-style IPA. Perfection.

    Review by Ben

The combination of the sweet, rich Belgian-style beer with wonderful American hops produces something truly wonderful. From the hoppy nose, through the bittersweet taste and to the wonderful mouthfeel, this is a near perfect beer. Sip and savour. (Posted on 19/03/2015)

  • Sod the courts...

    Review by RachB

Flying Dog are currently having a battle to stop courts censoring the names they give their beers. Apparently, some loony right-wingers in the US dislike the name Raging Bitch. Shame because Raging Bitch suits this cracker down to the ground. It hits like only an IPA rammed with American hops can do, and it hits in all the right places. One of my favourites...
