Durham Temptation

£4.49
Details
Multi-award winning, bottle-conditioned legends. Family owned and brewing from a 10 barrel plant, Durham make a staggering range of superb brews, from low abv Pale ales right through to knock-you-round-the-back-of-the-head supercharged stouts. They've casually tossed aside the temptation to brew in bulk instead focussing on brewing to an exquisite standard. All are bottle-conditioned and we've never once had a bad one - quite an achievement given the volatility of true bottle-conditioning. Lovely
Style Stout
Country British Beers
ABV 10%
Serving Temp 10 °C
Bottle Size 500ml
Moohahahaha (*evil laugh)--this is amazing! You expect coffee, chocolates and dark liquorice from any stout, but when you swill this around your glass the deep viscous liquid beckons you with a chocolatey finger of temptation. This is a malty, creamy, full-bodied mix of every after-dinner taste you ever desired. If you want to tone down any boozy after effects of the 10% kick or are feeling particularly generous then share it with a friend!

  • The Stout of all Stouts

    Review by LeeS

I was very surprised at how nice this was to drink as most stouts can be quite bitter and flat with very little in the way of flavour, however this stout has a very woody note that kicks the taste buds every time ... definitely one to try if you aren't a big fan of stout. • urremitting boredom

    Review by loussier

When I saw the reviews I was expecting something along the lines of 'lil B'. Alas what I got was a bog standard stout with a high alcohol content and an uninspired and insipid taste. Give this one a miss folks! (Posted on 15/07/2017)

  • Lead us not into temptation

    Review by Marit

Big, boozy Russian stout - not one to be rushed. Very malty, with dark chocolate, coffee, liquorice and dark fruits. Sweet; no bitterness. Very drinkable. (Posted on 27/06/2017)

  • Beautifully Crafted

    Review by tt

I love imperial stouts, and this one is excellent, well balanced flavours. (Posted on 14/06/2017)

  • Wonderful

    Review by Dale

Has to be one of the best beers, never mind stouts out there. World class. (Posted on 09/05/2017)

  • Great Imperial Stout

    Review by Ben

A very well brewed, tasty imperial stout. Nothing unique but just very well crafted. (Posted on 03/05/2017)

  • Night night juice

    Review by Garygph

Dark strong liquorice tangy aftertaste. Good night juice (Posted on 18/04/2017)

  • Give into Temptation

    Review by Jack Swans

Mother superior of an Imperial Stout. The best I have bought from Beerhawk since they stopped selling Kernel beers. If your tempted - give in, it's good for your soul. (Posted on 24/03/2017)

  • Give into Temptation

    Review by Jack Swans

This is a great imperial stout. One of the best that I have tried. Only bettered, in my opinion, by the offerings ofthe Kernel Brewery. At least in the UK. (Posted on 23/03/2017)

  • Stunning stout

    Review by Shogun warrior

As a lover of the black stuff in most of its forms I have to say I have fallen head first into Temptation.
Stunning flavour, deep, rich and complex with a hint of liquorice and like drinking liquid 90% chocolate.
Way too easy to drink and you definitely know you had it. Fabulous beer (Posted on 07/02/2017)

  • Lead me to it.

    Review by Danny Boy

Where do I begin? Rich, toasty, creamy, chocolatey. I do love a good imperial stout & this is easily right up there. I'm planning on purchasing this one again with my next order, as I don't see this one in the bottle shops & I live in London (I imagine few make it outside Durham). I'd like to see if I can resist the Temptation to drink next time, as apparently this is a beer that ages very well. (Posted on 04/02/2017)

  • Give in

    Review by Good head

A deep black colour with no head and a silky smooth and thick feel. A really strong flavour that coats the tongue, this is a beer of pleasure and one that I would recommend, but not necessarily share! (Posted on 14/12/2016)

  • Magnificent

    Review by Paul

A full on Imperial stout, rich, creamy, oily. One of the best stouts around (Posted on 04/10/2016)

  • Very easy to drink

    Review by Mik

Very balanced imperial stout. Easy to drink despite 10%. Smooth on the tongue. (Posted on 17/08/2016)

  • Interesting

    Review by JDW38

Pours very dark, off-white/tan head. Chocolate and slight coffee on the nose but also very strong alcohol notes that I found somewhat off-putting. Boozy fruitcake and chocolate with roasted malt taste. Again the very strongly alcoholic aftertaste came through which for me made it less enjoyable. Just personal taste though and still an excellent example of the style. (Posted on 31/07/2016)

  • Luxurious

    Review by Ben

Perfect stout, thick, bursting with flavour. (Posted on 29/07/2016)

  • Tempting

    Review by Llamaman

Whoah. Big beer this one, in every sense.
Bags of flavour - coffee and chocolate dominate as you'd expect, but there's also a boozy hit that makes it hard going. You could cut yourself a slice. Definitely a night cap. (Posted on 13/07/2016)

  • strong

    Review by Harry

A strong and tasty stout. I enjoyed it. Something good to sip on if you like stronger stouts on the sweeter side. (Posted on 22/06/2016)

  • nearly

    Review by doomlord

not the smoothest or most refined imperial stout althought potent the alchohol was prevalent in the aftertaste and it found it slightly acidic (Posted on 29/05/2016)

  • Very good Imperial Stout.

    Review by simontomlinson

Near white head left a skim - probably a bit too cold.
Great chocolate, coffee, malt & stewed fruit aroma.
Very smooth on the tongue - almost like velvet.
Coffee, malt, plum & red berries with a strong alcohol presence.

  • Boom!

    Review by Kaz

At 10% this certainly packs a punch, so take your time with it! It's worth it though, a rich creamy stout, one of the best examples of the kind that I've had. Recommended. (Posted on 26/04/2016)

  • Beyond Temptation

    Review by Ninja Terrier

This is very easy drinking for a 10% brew. All of the usual stout flavours are there in abundance. This will be going on my favorites list. (Posted on 13/03/2016)

  • Potent

    Review by David 1985

This was one of three Stouts Bought to share with my Dad. To us this was the easiest drank, wouldn't like to know what would happen after a second bottle. (Posted on 09/02/2016)

  • Knockout drops!

    Review by BJ 53

Simply a fantastic beer. Roasty, creamy, silky - really lovely mouthfeel. One to end the night with and a real classic in the making. (Posted on 15/01/2016)

  • Tempted?

    Review by Ady Gray

Bang; 10% of chocolatey goodness in a 500ml bottle. One too many and Xmas is over ;-) (Posted on 25/12/2015)

  • Lead us not into...

    Review by Grrrroooooovvvy

Ohh. Sweet blackcurrant and liquorice smoothness. Too easy on the tongue. A strong stout with a real woozy feel, but the fruit and malts are there in plenty to provide a truly pleasant sipping experience (Posted on 29/11/2015)

  • Decent

    Review by John

Very pleasant. Not as good as Cocoa Psycho but enjoyable. (Posted on 07/11/2015)

  • Overwhelmed by the alcohol

    Review by Cresp

After all the positive ratings I thought I would give this a try. On the nose, you can smell a little bit of liquorice and coffee, but it is overshadowed by a boozy smell, and unfortunately that is all I could taste too it isn\'t bad but I expected much more. (Posted on 07/09/2015)

  • Not bad, but a bit too 'boozy'

    Review by interzen

Make no mistake, this is a full-on Imperial stout and a fairly big hitter to boot - just to make life even more interesting, it comes in a 500ml bottle so the value-for-money score is pretty high.

Thick, black and, well, fairly stout - this weighs in at 10% and, for me at least, this was quite noticeable - all the 'typical' stout flavours are present and correct (coffee, chocolate, toasted malts etc.) but there's a strong undercurrent of alcohol too. Given that stouts of similar strength (eg. De Molen Hemel & Aarde) can disguise it quite well, this is a bit disappointing.

Not to be dismissed out of hand by any means, but a bit more masking of the alcohol would make this a real winner. (Posted on 28/08/2015)

  • Well worth it

    Review by z

Don't be deterred by the price, as you get high volume, strength and taste. Never seen this stout before so had to try it and would certainly recommend. (Posted on 09/08/2015)

  • Strong stout

    Review by BitZimBobs

This is a strong Stout. It had my head spinning. In lovely way of course. Very deep, bold, earthy, chocolatey flavour for me. I'm on a Stout tasting crusade - this is definitely one of the good ones. (Posted on 26/06/2015)

  • Powweful Stuff

    Review by leonidasthewookiee

An absolute must for lovers of stout or just beer in general. Hard not to drink this too fast but savor it! (Posted on 16/05/2015)

  • rich taste

    Review by bob

very rich and creamy, dark chocolate, licorice , coffee, beautiful Irish stout (Posted on 18/01/2015)

  • The Dark Side

    Review by Ay Pee Horne

Cracking IRS and good value for the money. Powerful, velvety mouthfeel. Dark chocolate, burnt coffee beans, thick treacle. Not one to go mad with, get two glasses and split with a pal. (Posted on 25/11/2014)

  • Very strong

    Review by Kath

This is my husbands favourite so far. He says it's the equivalent of pouring a whole bottle of wine in a glass and drinking it! Incredibly strong but incredibly tasty was his verdict - although it was difficult to understand him as his speech was slightly slurred. (Posted on 31/08/2014)
