Saison Dupont

Saison Dupont

£2.29
Details
This is a beautifully balanced, complex beer that has a refreshing fruitiness and long, dry finish. It is bottled unfiltered so it may be cloudy or have a slight sediment but this is normal and perfectly natural.
Style Pale Ale
Country Belgian Beers
ABV 6.50%
Serving Temp 8 to 10°C
Bottle Size 330ml

The refreshing, thirst-quenching saison was created for field workers—known as “saisoniers”—to enjoy whilst working during the hot summer months. Since 1844, Saison Dupont has been setting the standard for Belgian saisons and is internationally renowned for being the best-of-the-best and a perfect accompaniment to food.

This quintessential saison is best described as being lively, zesty and very refreshing. A bubbly carbonation gives this straw-coloured beer a dense head whilst carrying the aromas of bread, citrus, spice and hops to your nose. Bold bitterness with zesty hops and citrus are complemented by a solid malty sweetness. A long, dry finish transforms this beer into the unbelievably drinkable beer it was created to be.

  • Like meeting one of your heros

    Review by Changefromaten

Had heard a lot of hype about this classic beer and it doesn't disappoint. There's not many beers that live up to their reputation but this certainly does. Vinous, sweet, sparkling apple, tangy, dry finish. And that's just scratching the surface. There's a pureness about it. Perfect drink for it's original purpose. Like meeting one of your heroes and they are everything you wanted them to be. (Posted on 25/04/2017)

My first foray into a Saison style beer and its awesome. Easy drinkable. if this is setting the benchmark for Saisons than you might be disappointed with others after this.

    Review by Anton

Everyone uses this as the benchmark saison. Although its not as good as some smaller brewers who dont export very far, such as waterwolf by de hoop brouwerij in zaandam, it is one of the best widely available saisons. definitely worth the money! (Posted on 31/03/2017)

  • Classic

    Review by Beebo

Appearance: milky yellow, frothy, Virginal white head. Aroma: mildly grassy, some overripe fruits, dank pineapple. Flavour: lactose, nice fruity flavour, weed like hops, some lovely fruit in the finish. Decent. (Posted on 23/03/2017)

  • The Reference Saison

    Review by Llamaman

The craft revolution is causing Saisons to pop up all over the place, so it was nice to go back to the reference Saison beer, one I\'d not drunk for a few years.
Think I may have drunk it a little too cold (impateience got the better of me), but it was still excellent. Dry, peppery, yeasty, a bit fruity. Very refreshing and a pleasant break from the hop-bombs. (Posted on 16/01/2016)

  • Disappointed

    Review by LoneR

Maybe this was just the bottle I had, but i found this beer very disappointing. I was expecting a lot more. Yes, i get the fruitiness others speak of, but other than that it was a summer BBQ quaffing ale! Not one for me (Posted on 16/01/2016)

  • One Saison to Rule Them All

    Review by Jay Gamboa

With more and more Saisons being released, it is nice to refer back to the one Saison by which all others should be judged against.

Sure, some deviate and will not conform to the style but the basics should be there.

But about this beer. Funny that others find it hoppy, the standard isn't hoppy, and that is why I like saisons, because they don't rely on availability of much sought-after hops (even tho I love Quelle Saison by Beavertown Brewery for precisely the opposite reasons); with Saisons it is all about the yeast and what it can produce. Wounderful mix of aromas with a pleasant body and mouthfeel, full yet crisp with plenty of popping ester aromas popping all throughout the duration of your drink. It is just a shame it must end so soon.

  • Delicious and refreshing

    Review by JamesR

When drunk chilled from the right glass its hard to beat the interesting and refreshing nature of this. I prefer this to most other Saisons I've tried which usually disappoint in comparison and aren't as easy to drink! (Posted on 21/11/2015)

  • The quintessential saison

    Review by Erwin

The Saison Dupont is the most famous and iconic beer of the saison kind. Saison is a container name for all beers that were brewed in Wallonia (Belgium) for the saisonniers - the migrant seasonal workers. The style became unpopular when many breweries stopped making the style because other styles were more popular or cheaper to produce. Dupont was one of the few breweries that kept on brewing the style and carved out its own niche.

One of the first things you notice when you pour the beer into a glass is that there is quite a lot of carbonation. The beer is very crisp – dry even – with a bit of tart. The beer has a quite hoppy bitter which combines wonderfully with the dry character of the yeast. The finish is a bit peppery. It’s an ale that is both really complex and really simple – I would describe it as elegant. It’s a great thirst quencher that is perfect for summery days.

The dry and peppery taste that are specific to the Saison Dupont yeast were picked up by home brewers in the last years and became a hit. There are now many variants and additions to the saison kind of beers on the market. I really enjoy many of these new beers that move the style into exciting new directions, but none are as iconic and classic as the Saison Dupont. If you never had any beers of this kind I highly recommend you start here! (Posted on 25/06/2015)
