Belgian Dubbel

The Belgian Dubbel was first brewed in monasteries during the middle ages but has gone through a bit of a revival since the mid-1800s. This dark-amber to copper-coloured beer typically has a complex malty sweetness in both flavour and aroma with generally some dried fruit and spiciness. Raisins and cloves are common, as is toffee or caramel and it finishes medium dry despite its sweetness. The Belgian dubbel is the quintessential Belgian beer style.
