Brewing since 1824, Veltins is a family-owned brewery based in the west German city of Meschede-Grevenstein (near to Dusseldorf and Dortmund). Not hugely well-known in the UK until the last few years or so, it’s the 7th best-selling brewery in Germany and its Pilsener is one of the biggest beer brands in the country. What makes it so good is the local mountain water used in brewing, which happens to be perfect for this style of beer.
Of course, German beer is brewed to the16th-century Reinheitsgebot or Purity Law, so you can be sure it’s going to be clean, crisp and totally refreshing. The Germans have bought Veltins Pilsener en masse for years, and its about time we did too.
