Founded in 1871 as the Moortgat Farm brewery, this Antwerp-based brewer started off producing high-fermentation beers. At the turn of the century they headed to Scotland to find out more about English-inspired beer, and came back with a yeast sample that’s still in use today. Their signature beer - originally called ‘Victory Ale’ to commemorate the First World War - picked up the nickname ‘a true devil’ and Duvel as we know it today was born.
Duvel beer’s pronounced hop aroma and high alcohol content make it unique amongst Belgian beers and a firm favourite here at Beer Hawk, but we also love the single hop versions they produce every year. This year’s hop is Equinox, so watch this space for a brand new, limited edition brew.
