Pierre Celis first founded a brewery in 1966 in his father’s stable in Hoegaarden, Belgium. Unfortunately, it burned to the ground in 1985. Several years later in 1992 Celis moved to Austin, Texas and founded a microbrewery - his choice of location being due to the Texan’s slow drawl, much easier for this Belgian to understand.
One of his first creations, Celis White received a coveted 4-star rating from the prominent beer writer Michael Jackson. After his death in 2011 the Celis brand was bought and sold a couple of times, eventually making its way back to Celis’s daughter who now brews his famous recipes with a little help from Craftbev.
