More properly known as the Brouwerij Omer Vander Ghinste - which is quite a mouthful - Bocker brewery was founded in 1892. Their first beer was a red-brown ‘roodbruin’, hugely successful at the time and still brewed under the name of VanderGhinste Oud Bruin today. The brewery is currently owned by a 5th-generation Omer, who created his namesake blonde brew to launch the brewery into a new century. Believe it or not, it’s traditional for an Omer to own the brewery - around the turn of the 20th Century it ran a cafe, whose large lead glass windows bore the full brewery name. In keeping with tradition all first-born sons in the family have since been christened Omer - meaning that the windows never need to be replaced.
