BrewDog Punk IPA

BrewDog Punk IPA

The Bad Boys of British Brewing, claiming to be the cure to the illness that is mass produced beer. They brew with no constraints and are constantly innovating to release amazing beer to the UK from their brewery in Scotland.
Style IPA
Country British Beers
ABV 5.60%
Serving Temp 6 to 8°C
Bottle Size 330ml

We’ll spare you the riotous/punk/apocalyptic/hide-your-kids Punk IPA description from Brewdog and instead we’ll just tell you how great this beer is. If you’re a hop-head, this one is for you; it’s made with six different hops and is an incendiary assault on your palate! Oops. Promised we wouldn’t do that.

The flavours and aromas of this IPA are dominated by notes of lychee, tropical fruits, pineapple, and caramel malts. The bitterness is somewhat muted but an assertively dry finish provides the crisp balance needed. Dripping with sweet fruit flavours, this full-flavoured medium-bodied beer is a modern homage to the classic IPA.

BrewDog Punk IPA won United Kingdom's Best IPA at the World Beer Awards 2015.

  • King of beers

Review by Beer today, gone tomorrow

Has rapidly become my go to beer. If I see it in a new pub it avoids any time wasting, chin scratching deliberation. One pint or that! Delicious. (Posted on 27/11/2017)

  • Good citrus brew

    Review by Kinners

Great beer! Very drinkable good head and a perfect balance of fiz, hop and citrus. (Posted on 25/11/2017)

  • Not quite what it was

    Review by Dudes Brews

One of the beers that opened my mind to craft ales but it doesn't seem to have fully survived Brewdogs runaway success intact. Yes its still a nice smashable hoppy beer but it seems to have been toned down a bit for the mass market or perhaps has just suffered from the larger scale production. Seems a bit thin nowadays and the flavour tends to wash away quite quickly. That said still better than 95% of the stuff in the supermarket (Posted on 19/11/2017)

  • The godfather of ipa

    Review by Tom

Simply brilliant from brewdog. A juicy hoppy delight of a beer. Lycees and hops.... (Posted on 19/11/2017)

  • Punk rocker

    Review by Mark

This was a shock to me the first time! Critics might say between a beer and lager...but its great.
I'd say a verry hoppy sparly real ale with incredible taste - divides the drinkers like marmite - only love or hate! (Posted on 19/10/2017)

  • Brewdogs greatest

    Review by Lees

This is by far one of the best that Brewdog has to offer .. Its strong but a really enjoyable IPA ... give it a go and see how much you love it :) (Posted on 18/08/2017)

  • Legendary beer

    Review by Rusty

It's hard to diss this beer as it has legendary status, it's the beer that took so many people into craft beer. However, it's changed over the years, whether our taste buds have matured or if they're using less hops? Who knows? Still a decent beer though. (Posted on 13/08/2017)

  • Best offering from Brewdog

    Review by David P

This is by far the best that Brewdog offers. Its strong but a really enjoyable IPA. A must try if you have never had it before! (Posted on 26/07/2017)

  • Really great Beer - especially when it's free!

    Review by SX

I love this beer! I was especially happy to find it in a recent BeerHawk Mystery Case. When the beer comes in at £1.67 a bottle and is part of a great big variety box you really can't go wrong. And when you used your acquired beer tokens to get it for free ......... Happy Days!
    Thanks BeerHawk. (Posted on 26/07/2017)

  • Benchmark standard

    Review by Dan Ack

Consistently very good IPA. Others have mentioned there are better out there and BrewDog do produce finer than this, their flagship beer - all true. However, it's national, and now international accessibility reveals it's consistency and the fact that it's the best widely available IPA out there. Why anyone would buy it for £2.49 a bottle on here when its only £1.80 in almost every supermarket or if you're open to a 4 pack then £1.50 a unit. Do the maths people - great IPA, just use your money more wisely... (Posted on 24/07/2017)

  • Best british brewery

    Review by Jonnyb

Brewdog are making some of the best beer in the country at the moment. When you think of the amount of hops they use in each bottle this beer is a bargain (Posted on 14/07/2017)

  • Never disappoints

    Review by Beer Savvy

Seems like this beer has been around for ages as it was one of the first to hit the supermarket shelves. Is a great go to IPA, full of flavour and packed with hops that just hit the spot. Never disappoints. (Posted on 25/06/2017)

  • Where the UK Craft beer revolution started. Great go too.

    Review by Moxley

Seriously if you haven't started here this is your go too. A great depth of bitterness not too much malt flavour to get in the way of the hops. Great go too beer. (Posted on 24/06/2017)

  • Hopped up on bitterness

    Review by RJHowlett

Now a staple of the pub and supermarket, this IPA is rammed full of bitter hops. It packs a punch, but not enough to put off those just starting to delve into the world of craft beers. (Posted on 22/06/2017)

  • BrewDog's finest

    Review by MrDeek

In my opinion, it's the best BrewDog beer out there. Seriously good. (Posted on 22/06/2017)

  • Flagship

    Review by Supping Sam

While this is the flagship beer from Brewdog I think this is more to do with its socialy accepable abv rather than a comment on the beer itself. While it is a very nice IPA it is far from the best Brewdog has to offer see Jack Hammer or Mr President (Posted on 19/06/2017)

  • Summer in a bottle

    Review by Pjherts

Love his beer, I buy it for hubby but always sneak one out for me. (Posted on 14/06/2017)

  • One of the best

    Review by West Street Brew

For a commercial beer that is pretty much available everywhere in the UK, this is up there with the best. Enough body and hoppyness to enjoy as an everyday beer. Not sure why the BeerHawk price is so high considering the general availability however. (Posted on 09/06/2017)

  • So good I never get a drop.

    Review by Lewis

This is an IPA so good, when ever I get it, it's stolen by my father. (Posted on 03/06/2017)

  • Go to IPA

    Review by Simon

This is one of my favourite IPA's. This a good bitter IPA, but not too bitter to just enjoy as a refreshing "not too taxing" beer on a hot day. Everyone that I've given this beer to really enjoy it. Brewdog are an excellent producer always looking to be different, innovative and trying new recipes. I would highly recommend this beer. (Posted on 31/05/2017)

  • Its everywhere for a reason

    Review by Orange

Not many places you cant buy this, but that's for a reason, its an all round great IPA, there are better out there but still great (Posted on 30/05/2017)

  • Great beer overall

    Review by Harry

Nice flavour. Strong taste. Brillaint over all beer (Posted on 13/05/2017)

  • Great tasting beer!

    Review by thespecialist

I really enjoyed this beer, and much better than the Brewdog Dead Pony Pale Ale. It's super tasty, easy to drink, and well balanced. The only reason for dropping the rating by a star is that I can get it cheaper in a supermarket. (Posted on 05/05/2017)

  • Still holds its own with the best out there.

    Review by Voyage34

This beer heralded the start of the IPA revolution. It still cuts it with the best, however, even Brewdog have surpassed this with Jack Hammer. I will still buy plenty of this stuff though. (Posted on 26/04/2017)

  • A good surprise

    Review by tom

I had never heard of this beer/brand but was drawn to it by the label. I was pleasantly surprised by the taste and will always choose this beer now (Posted on 20/04/2017)

  • Not as good as Goose Island

    Review by Ian

Good, well-hopped IPA. Not as good as the Goose Island though (Posted on 12/04/2017)

  • Better IPA's Out There

    Review by FR

This is a not a bad IPA but there are better ones available (Posted on 12/03/2017)

  • OK, but better available

    Review by Wethers

Serviceable, but much better available on this site (Posted on 09/01/2017)

  • readily available

    Review by dt

Great beer but mass produced and readily available in most supermarkets and off licences. Generally cheaper elsewhere also but great addition to any order rather than venturing out the house (Posted on 15/12/2016)

  • Great Beer

    Review by Hoopyem

Very fresh prob a bit to easy to drink lol. Can but cheaper in supermarkets though (Posted on 09/12/2016)

Great taste and very easy to drink, one of my favourite beers. (Posted on 06/12/2016)

    Review by Andy

Cracking beer. Especially on draft. If you want bottled, you can get it a lot cheaper in the supermarkets. Why wait and pay more.. (Posted on 04/12/2016)

  • Great at £1.60

    Review by On the hop

Brew Dogs flagship and it is nice, only concern is that it was previously £1.60 and it is now £2.49. Hope BH will reduce the price again. (Posted on 28/11/2016)

  • Where it all began

    Review by Martin

My first ever craft beer and will always be a firm favourite (Posted on 22/11/2016)

  • Buy this now

    Review by On the hop

Brew Dogs flag ship beer or Pale Ale and a must have staple element of any beer connoisseurs collection. Delicious, fresh and fruity with a hint.........oh shut it! Just buy this, taste and make up your own mind. Bit like Marmite, you will love it or hate it. (Posted on 17/11/2016)

  • Tasty gear

    Review by On the hope

IPA Punk is Brew Dogs flagship and if you have not tried it, what are you waiting for? A really tasty pale ale and something which friends and work buddies rave about once it has been tried. Get a case or two in for your next BBQ or party and see how it goes down. As usual totally outstanding service from Beer Hawk, use these guys, they are the best and really care about the beer. (Posted on 14/10/2016)

  • Gold standard in British IPA's

    Review by claydon82

A great ale. Hoppy and fruity its a great drink, There are few better ales out there but often find my self back on the Punk. its the level all other IPAs should be judged (Posted on 13/10/2016)

  • Top number from Brewdog

    Review by On the hop

I was introduced to this in the summer and boy did it change the way I thought about beer. It does have some overtones of Hoegaarden in there, but is far more tasty. Remember this is a Pale Ale and my father in law, a lager drinker, did not like it what so ever. I have also heard the term 'flowery' to describe it, but I think that is far too simplistic. Enough of the waffle, order, drink and enjoy. Top service from Beer Hawk as well. (Posted on 05/10/2016)

  • Better IPAs out there nowadays

    Review by Jo

Clear amber colour, tropical fruity aroma, very hoppy with a slight malty flavour, sweet mouthfeel with a bitter aftertaste. (Posted on 26/09/2016)

  • An enjoyable beer

    Review by JB

It's not the most exciting or interesting beer on offer here but it's a great tasting reliably enjoyable beer. Brewdog have got many things right. I personally prefer the jackhammer as it packs more punch. If looking for a session then dead pony has more flavour than this in my opinion (Posted on 22/09/2016)

  • Dependable Punk IPA

    Review by BillyBonis

I always have a few of these in just in case I've not enjoyed some of my newer choices. It is a dependable beer and always satisfies. Good hop aromas (piney and fruity) and a good bitter bit bite. No sediment to contend with so I've had no gushers to date. (Posted on 20/09/2016)

  • Tropical Passion Fruit Hop Madness

    Review by Thodd

If I could only drink one beer this would be it.
Its not too strong so a few can be enjoyed, and it packs a real punch in Hop flavour with passion fruit, grapefruit and citrus zipping through. Not too bitter but enough to compensate the biscuit background from the Hops.
A great beer. (Posted on 16/08/2016)

  • Nice

    Review by Bee Baron

A great, if on the strong side, session IPA. Lovely rounded flavour, plenty of hops and not too fizzy. (Posted on 02/07/2016)

  • Nice IPA

    Review by Norf London

Difficult to go wrong with Brew Dog at the moment, a fun and enjoyable IPA. (Posted on 24/03/2016)

  • Great beer.

    Review by CarlA

Decently hoppy, nice fruity aromas without being too much. Lovely smooth easy drinking refreshing middle, and a nice grapefruit bitter bite at the end. (Posted on 16/03/2016)

  • Simply great

    Review by Nick

There's not much to say about this beer that hadn't been said before. It's a great example of a modern IPA so, if you're one of the three beer-drinkers in Britain who haven't tried it, just give it a go. It's where beer's at, man. (Posted on 16/02/2016)

  • Gnats p!ss

    Review by pubcrawler

This is a lager that smells and tastes like a pint of bitter - neither one thing or the other.... (Posted on 29/01/2016)

  • Interesting, solid 4 stars

    Review by James R

Personally I don't like all the fruity flavours but decent to drink and a lot going on. (Posted on 21/11/2015)

  • Class Act

    Review by Dale May

There\'s a reason why this is one of the most well known and popular of the modern craft beers, and that\'s because it\'s an instant classic. Immediately familiar yet definitely superior to most other IPA\'s on the market. It\'s doesn\'t try to be too clever - just a straightforward, classic, extremely well done ale, (Posted on 23/09/2015)

  • Best brewery in britain ?

    Review by stivvy

A great beer, loved by my sons and now my friends agree its a world class brewery !!! I have just ordered a case of Brewdog selection from you , cannot wait for the delivery to arrive (Posted on 02/05/2015)

  • A lovely little bottle.

    Review by Terry

I'll certainly have some of these again! :) (Posted on 17/03/2015)

  • Interesfull ...

    Review by Big Bazza

... compared to the supermarket beer that I have quaffed up until now. I'm new to this "craft" beer and Punk IPA has made a good first impression. In fact it is not really "quaffable" but more drinkable at a leisurely pace. I didn't know that beer could have such a rich and complex taste. A couple of bottles of this may well replace my usual bottle of red on a Friday night (Posted on 11/03/2015)

  • Where it all started

    Review by Ben

This is the beer that started the beer revolution for me. Very well balanced. Hoppy without being overpowering. Refreshing, floral and full of flavour. (Posted on 09/02/2015)

  • Ideal Starting point for craft beer

    Review by pricey

I feel this is the perfect beer for anyone wanting to get into the craft beer world fantastic beer with a good amount of hop flavour you must try this beer (Posted on 24/01/2015)

  • Five stars fellas!

    Review by MegaHops

The Scottish have done it. They have created a drink that rivals many established beers as something new and different. Personally I can't get enough of the stuff and the fact that it's popping up for sale in my local and not so local watering holes make me even the merrier. (Posted on 26/11/2014)

  • Good dog!

    Review by Eric Rayner

I support the ethos of Brew Dog to shake up the brewing industry with some new thinking, but sometimes that thinking goes a little awry (I guess that's to be expected with all that strong beer around). However, Punk IPA is a great brew - their best, in my view - it has strength, but not silly strength, it's nicely hopped and has a great complexity of taste for a fairly simple beer. It holds that taste when chilled, so can be used straight from the fridge as a refreshing drink on a warm day. (Posted on 01/11/2014)

  • A go-to beer

    Review by Ali

No matter what else I try, I always seem to come back to punk ipa. It's become my go-to beer, really. Yes, there are others perhaps more exciting or unusual, but Punk IPA is a staple for me. Whatever other bottled peculiarities I have in my fridge, there's usually a few of these for those more everyday drinking situations; the refreshing one after work, or the football on the sofa. That being said, don't underestimate just how delicious it is. (Posted on 08/09/2014)

  • Floral and odd

    Review by Lee

Maybe it's just me, but I think this tastes like a bunch of flowers. If that appeals, great! But not my bag. (Posted on 02/01/2014)
