BrewDog Hardcore IPA

BrewDog Hardcore IPA

£3.79
4.45
48
Style IPA
Country British Beers
ABV 9.2%
Serving Temp 8 to 10°C
Bottle Size 330ml

150 IBUs and 9.2% ABV. Yes, Brewdog, that's Hardcore. As Brewdog themselves so eloquently state, this beer has been "hopped to hell, then dry-hopped to hell too." And they aren't kidding.

The Hardcore IPA is chocked full of the American Centennial, Columbus, and Simcoe hops which present themselves with some intense citrus, pine, and spicy notes. Backed up by a strong malty backbone with notes of whisky, rum, and liquid candy and its Brewdog-esque lingering bitterness, this beer is dangerously good. Drink slowly!

  1. Mighty fine IPA

This is my kinda double IPA, packed with hoppy flavour and bite. (Posted on 20/07/2017)

  2. Good IPA
    Review by Jonathan

A very god IPA. At 9.2% it's far from a session beer. (Posted on 30/05/2017)

  3. Brewdog hardcore
    Review by Gary

Citrus Sweet and malty almost barley wine like. Bitter at the end and strong in abv. Unfiltered. (Posted on 19/05/2017)

  4. I really like it
    Review by Bantam

A very, very good double IPA. Great colour and texture. Rich and bitter hoppyness and a great kick of alcohol. Pairing it with cheese, pate and bread makes it delicious. I love it. (Posted on 12/05/2017)

  5. Definitely hardcore!
    Review by Hagge

I find Brewdog a bit hit and miss, but this one is definitely hardcore with lots of flavour! (Posted on 05/05/2017)

  8. Too bitter for me
    Review by ScubaBeanz

I have so far loved all the Brewdog beers I have tried, and its a few!!, but wasn't keen on this one. Very, very bitter and for me not a good taste. Some people seem too like it but not one I would choose. (Posted on 06/04/2017)

  9. For the hardcore
    Review by MilesK97

Really strong, bitter IPA. Got a real kick to it. Not one for the light hearted. Will be buying again! (Posted on 28/03/2017)

  10. Born to die little brother
    Review by Grimmy

This little gem is the little brother of born to die. If you liked that then add a few to your basket now (Posted on 28/03/2017)

  11. Too much for me
    Review by Timbo

Just a bit too strong and hoppy + bitter for me. I Like the rest of their range but this one is just a bit too extreme! (Posted on 08/03/2017)

  12. Bob on!
    Review by KMH222

Can't fault this, wonderfully hoppy and bitter. One of the best doubles I've had recently. (Posted on 04/03/2017)

  13. Too malty for my taste
    Review by Gregor

I love a hoppy beer, and brewdog have certainly made that! However I feel this beer is a bit too malty for my liking.

If you like more of a malt taste then this will be for you, but I prefer a lighter taste (Posted on 25/02/2017)

  14. The best
    Review by Shaun

My favourite brewdog beer shame it's getting cut. bitter, hoppy, thick tasting beer one to sit and enjoy you wouldn't think the beer was so strong its really drinkable . (Posted on 23/02/2017)

  15. strong & tasty
    Review by stefcha

Picked up some of these as a gift for my dad who liked it from a mixed case and was offered a try, stronger beers aren't usually my sort of thing but this surprised me with how tasty it actually was. Obviously not one to be glugged down on a hot day, but as a slower one to savour over Christmas it did the trick. (Posted on 05/01/2017)

  16. sorry to see it go
    Review by ultan

Pity this is being cut from the brewdog line up. Starts off a little sweet but is balanced by the intense hops at the finish. Alcohol is not overly hidden which makes it a nice warming beer. (Posted on 14/12/2016)

  17. Hardcore indeed
    Review by Hoopyem

This is one of my favourites, Unique taste and very drinkable with such a high ABV few of these and your well on your way. (Posted on 09/12/2016)

  18. Great beer
    Review by Iddy

Pours copper with an off white head. Aroma of grapefruit and sweet malt. Very sweet caramel is finished with a nice bitter kick.
Earlier Rating: 9/4/2014 Total Score: 3.9
Pours a nice golden brown colour with a small white foamy head. The aroma is a strong floral/citrus which is very appealing. A sharp bitter hops taste on the palate. (Posted on 09/12/2016)

  19. Plenty of bark and bite!
    Review by MiniMac

Stand out IPA aroma & high drinkability for such high ABV. Best standard IPA Brewdog have to offer and would highly recommend! (Posted on 20/10/2016)

  20. Odd, but nice
    Review by wgardner

Hmm, first sip I didn't like it - the malt had a weird 'woody' flavour. Second sip, I could taste more hops and the malt became more clear. It's an odd malt flavour throughout, almost tastes oak aged. I really enjoyed the beer, and would try again, but it could be an acquired taste. (Posted on 20/10/2016)

  21. Another good effort from Brewdog
    Review by Birky

Strong hops, caramel, grapefruit and some bitterness. 9.2% powerful but smooth. Taste maybe slightly too bitter and it's head blowingly strong but nice stuff. (Posted on 11/10/2016)

  22. Potent, surprisingly tasty beer
    Review by Andrew

When beers get an ABV so high it seems very few can keep flavor and bitterness in check, whilst not the best out there this is a great example.

Slightly chilled and drank with patience this was a nice treat on a chilly evening. (Posted on 11/10/2016)

  23. Taste explosion
    Review by Birky

Strong hops, caramel, grapefruit and some bitterness. 9.2% powerful but smooth. Taste maybe slightly too bitter and it's head blowingly strong but nice stuff. (Posted on 09/10/2016)

  24. Mr.

  26. Lovely
    Review by Alex

Fruity, hoppy and satisfying. A very good beer, exactly what you'd expect from brewdog. Doesn't taste like 150 IBU (Posted on 02/08/2016)

  27. Amazing IPA from brewdog
    Review by Ben

More serious bitterness and much more taste than any English IPA. (Posted on 29/07/2016)

  28. Bang, Bang gone
    Review by Hop botherer

Deceptively stron, but overwhelming in flavour. The malty backbone is very noticeable with not a huge hop note on the nose. Bitterness is cranked up to 11 but in a good way. (Posted on 29/06/2016)

  29. Perfect
    Review by Ianr

Big on flavour, superb drinking - one of brew dogs best! (Posted on 31/05/2016)

  30. Life Changing Goodness
    Review by Beer Buddy

The beer that got me off cask ale and onto the wonders of craft. A boozy, hoppy, sweet, dry flavour bomb of goodness. perfect for end of a session or cheeky celebration. Stunning. (Posted on 02/05/2016)

  31. Up to their usual high standard
    Review by Mick

Is it me or is everything that comes out of Brewdog really special? Absolutely loved this. Hits every taste bud head-on. Loads of flavours swirling around then when its gone you have the usual bitter after-burn. Wow. How do they do it? (Posted on 02/05/2016)

  32. The Daddy!
    Review by Beer Buddy

The beer that got me into craft beer. Boozy, hoppy, dry and sweet all at the same time. This is adventure in a glass. The perfect way to finish a session. Simply stunning. (Posted on 25/04/2016)

  33. Lovely IPA
    Review by Jo

Strong spicy citrus aroma, bitter whiskey taste, heavy mouthfeel, will be trying again. (Posted on 17/04/2016)

  34. More sugar than spice
    Review by Changefromaten

I was expecting this beer to have a really spiky, hoppy character but I was pleased to find a more balanced toffee malt flavor that was really sweet.

A lovely, very drinkable brew considering its strength. (Posted on 17/04/2016)

  35. Typical Brewdog
    Review by Llamaman

A typical Brewdog beer - subtle, with a careful balance of malt and gentle hops...
    ... erm, no.
True to form, this is a massive hop monster. Full-on assault on the taste buds with a massive alcoholic kick to boot. (Posted on 01/04/2016)

  36. Dangerous...
    Review by Danny

This stuff is rocket fuel! A strong 9.2% imperial that is hoppy and juicy with an alcohol kick. Way too easy to drink. (Posted on 02/02/2016)

  37. OMG
    Review by Terrier

How did they manage to fit so much in a bottle. I am a long standing fan of BrewDog and this beer takes it to a new level. Overall an outstanding beer well worth sampling. (Posted on 02/01/2016)

  38. Hoppy Perfection
    Review by Ady Gray

If you want that hopped-up, super-bitter brew then BrewDog have smashed it with this beast. 150 IBUs is a mark many would shy away from...but this is BrewDog!!! (Posted on 15/12/2015)

  39. Strong in abv, stronger in flavour
    Review by Seanp1916

At 9.2% you are immediately fooled into thinking this will be a dark syrup like beer that you could eat with a spoon. Nothing of the sort!!! Very smooth with a lovely caramel aftertone!!! Excellent work brew-dog there is still hope for Scottish brewing with you guys! (Posted on 26/10/2015)

  40. A superb, strong IPA
    Review by Beer Baron

The only thing small about this beer is the bottle! Huge flavours, massive happiness and high abv makes this a great IPA, though definitely not a session ale!

Great work BrewDog! Perhaps there could be a Brew Dog mixed case soon (hint!!) (Posted on 26/10/2015)

  41. Explosive
    Review by Tipple

Huge beer - toffee malt, big hops and a rich mouthfeel. Proceed with caution. (Posted on 21/10/2015)

  42. Rewards careful planning
    Review by Llamaman

The ABV told me this wasn't a glugging brew so it I plonked it in the fridge to see how it developed (I normally drink my ales at room temp).
It pours a beautiful amber colour and what little heads there is disappeared in a puff of smoke. The initial taste at fridge temp was all hops - the malt was barely noticeable. As it warmed up, the balance came into focus and the toffee notes from the malt helped mellow out the harsher hops notes.
Once it hit room temperature, the hops were back in control, with the aroma so strong it made me sneeze!

Catch it at the right temperature and this is a fantastic ale. If you're normally a lazy room-temperature drinker, plonk it in the fridge for a bit (but don't let it get too cold) to really get the best out of it. (Posted on 20/10/2015)

  43. Solid as a rock
    Review by Mr Egg White

I was actually sent the wrong beer by mistake but the guys at beer hawk immediately refunded the cost of it without a fuss and were very good about it. Having said that I have had this before and I was very impressed. From what I remember its a very solid, very big IPA with a lot going for it. Hence 5 stars! (Posted on 05/09/2015)

  44. Chuffin' HARDCORE!
    Review by interzen

Brewdog - love 'em or loathe 'em, you can't deny that they can brew some pretty good beers, and with Hardcore the hype and hyperbole are actually justified.

This is big-hitting IPA with hops turned all the way up to 11 and beyond, even before you've got it out of the bottle. Taste-wise, it's balanced by a lovely sweetness which is the only hint you'll have that malts are present. It balances everything out perfectly.

Absolutely massive, in taste, smell and ABV (9.2%) - treat it with respect on school nights, but there's enough going on that it demands careful attention to get the most out of it. (Posted on 06/07/2015)

  45. nice
    Review by Paul

I'm a IPA fan and this is a nice one. Crazy strong and very hardcore... (Posted on 05/07/2015)

  46. 180 bpm
    Review by Pinchy

HARDCORE! If this were music it would indeed be 180bpm nosebleed techno. Minimal nose, but TASTE! Hoppy, citrus, grapefruit. You'll enjoy this one.
HARDCORE! YOU KNOW THE SCORE! 9.2%ABV (Posted on 22/05/2015)

  47. Boom
    Review by stuartybarlow

Massive flavours. Grapefruit, citrus and a blast of spice. (Posted on 18/02/2015)

  48. BrewDog you beautiful creation!
    Review by MegaHops

BrewDog have somehow managed to create drinks which I liken to nectar, they are so good on every level. All BrewDog beers are full of flavour and provide what you'd expect from a premium beer. Moreover the BewDog bars that are sprouting are a phenomenon in their own right. Well worth a buy and visit one of their bars if your passing. (Posted on 25/11/2014)
