BrewDog Dead Pony Pale Ale

BrewDog Dead Pony Pale Ale

The Bad Boys of British Brewing, claiming to be the cure to the illness that is mass produced beer. They brew with no constraints and are constantly innovating to release amazing beer to the UK from their brewery in Scotland.
Style IPA
Country British Beers
ABV 3.8%
Serving Temp 6 to 8°C
Bottle Size 330ml
Inspired by hugely hoppy Californian pale ales, Dead Pony has quite a following among BrewDog fans. Grapefruit, orange peel and pine flavours all jostle for attention, balanced by light biscuity malts and a spritzy carbonation. It's not a subtle beer by any means, but if you fancy a refreshing pale ale with a massive hop character that transcends its 3.8% ABV, this is the horse to back. BrewDog Dead Pony Club won Europe's Best Pale Ale at the World Beer Awards 2015.

Product Reviews

  • Dead pony included

    Review by Matthew

I love me some drewdog but this is my least favourite. It actually tastes like dead pony. (Posted on 20/11/2017)

  • not the best but still worth a taste

Review by A little bit hoppy

Not the best pale ale I've had but it's still nicer than some though. Definitely worth a try seen as everyone has different tastes. (Posted on 16/07/2017)

  • Fantastic beer.

    Review by Robert

This is undoubtably my favourite beer. I am a real ale fan but the bar manager of my local persuaded me to try a Dead Pony, which I did, though I was sceptical as I'm not normally a bottle beer man. Wow what a pleasant surprise, I'll not bother describing it as the label says it all. Thanks Brewdog, maybe I'll try some of your other brews in the future. (Posted on 30/06/2017)

  • It's okay, but not Punk IPA good

    Review by Simon

Although okay and Brewdog were trying a different recipe, unfortunately, it lacks character and quite frankly I will not re-order this beer. Personally I would go for the Punk IPA instead in the future. (Posted on 31/05/2017)

  • It's ok

    Review by thespecialist

I'm usually a fan of Brewdog's beers however I was left disappointed by this beer. It doesn't have any distinctive taste or justify the price when comparing it to other higher quality beers (Posted on 05/05/2017)

  • Lacks character.

    Review by Voyage34

OK. By today's standards this is perhaps on the weak side and the dry hoppiness does come through as expected with all Brewdog products but Bad Co's Comfortably Numb trumps it by some way. (Posted on 26/04/2017)

  • Not Punk

    Review by baz_the_barn

Reasonable enough but this suffers a little in direct comparison with Punk IPA, given a choice even with the price premium I would always plump for the latter (Posted on 08/04/2017)

  • a real let down

    Review by baz the Barn

I love the Brew Dog Punk IPA, this lacked any real character very disappointing (Posted on 30/09/2016)

  • One trick pony

    Review by JIngs

Brewdog make their usual mistake of throwing hops at a poorly balanced beer, but without the alcohol content to temper the violence. (Posted on 13/09/2016)

  • Great

    Review by Ben

You can never go wrong with a brewdog, and this is no exception. Easily drinkable on any occasion. Love it. (Posted on 08/05/2016)

  • Maximum taste, minimum ABV

    Review by Beer Monster

Plenty of sediment, leave a couple of days before drinking. A nice drink would love to taste it on draught. Great flavours. Very clever in the way they've created the huge taste versus the low ABV. Take a case of this to a bbq and you'll be very popular. (Posted on 25/03/2016)

  • Session dog

    Review by Geoff

Possibly Brewdog's only beer under 5% ... if you're craving that Scottish twang on the american hop flavour and don't want to be on the floor after the first couple, this is a safe bet (Posted on 26/08/2015)

  • Wicked!!

    Review by stivvy

This brewery is a beauty. My two sons and I just love this beer!!! (Posted on 13/04/2015)

    Review by Stivvy

Brilliant beer, a big favourite of mine as well as all the Brew dog range. Will be ordering again asap (Posted on 03/04/2015)

  • Soild session ale

    Review by Slapbang

Packs a lot of flavour into a 3.8% beer. Has a nice citrus fruitiness to it, well balanced taste. Nothing special but very easy and pleasant to drink. (Posted on 02/04/2015)

  • Weak but sessionable

    Review by Stuart O

Considering this beer is so weak, it's so damn tasty. Everything you'd expect from an American Pale Ale and you could have a few without feeling too worse for wear. Recommended. (Posted on 04/02/2015)

  • Pony!

    Review by Beer Hawk Louise

a beer i wanted to try just because of the name - a nice aroma on on opening and a lovely citrus flavour
will definitely be trying this again (Posted on 04/11/2014)
