BrewDog Born To Die 13.05.2017

BrewDog Born To Die 13.05.2017

Style IPA
Country British Beers
ABV 8.5%
Serving Temp 6 to 8°C
Bottle Size 330ml

Oh my. Brewdog's Born To Die is, well, to die for. This sparkling gold beer hits you with gorgeous aromas of grapefruit, citrus fruits and fresh-cut grass. Taking a sip, however, sends you to another world (pretty sure it's heaven.) Complex notes of passionfruit, mango, candied oranges and lemongrass are complemented by a fantastic earthy bitterness with a bit of spice whilst a firm bitterness nicely lingers. A medium-light body and a dry finish give this IPA a very refreshing drinkability that is surprisingly restrained. But those are just words. All you need to know is that this. beer. is. fresh.

This beer will be shipped from Tuesday 10th April.

  • Nectar of the gods

    Review by EGG WHITE

Totally smashing double IPA (Posted on 08/12/2017)

  • Born to drink

    Review by Lee

Hoppy and fruity on the nose, a syrupy mouth-feel, with a really dry finish. Warming alcohol but not over-powering.

It certainly wasn't savage... Overall a balanced IPA but there's nothing that really separates it from the Brew Dog pack. Didn't quite live up to the hype. But definitely worth crossing off your bucket list. (Posted on 04/12/2017)

  • Love it!

    Review by Fiona

With fruity undertones and a clear fruity taste and smell this beer is much too good ever to get even close to dying in my fridge. Surprising dark in the glass it smells good, tastes wonderful. (Posted on 03/12/2017)

  • Great taste, but a bit pricey

    Review by Hakan

Really great hoppy taste. I bought 15 of these, and really enjoyed single one of them, even if I drank some after the expiry date! Can definitely recommend, although it is a bit pricey... (Posted on 21/11/2017)

  • Born To Die

    Review by Lee

Probably the best IPA that I’ve tried, the only issue is that you rate all other beers against this. Very hoppy and a nice crisp drink, always look out for it when available. (Posted on 25/09/2017)

  • One hell of an IPA

    Review by No1smudger

Brewdog are definitely one of the best breweries around, constantly bringing in new beers, experimenting with new ideas and have become a true master at it. Born to Die although not new, is a great IPA, extremely hoppy with an unbelievable flavour, and one you should definitely try not quite 'born to die' more before you die. (Posted on 27/07/2017)

    Review by Edward

but I thought it was pretty average - good to try it all the same, no regrets. (Posted on 21/07/2017)

  • Welcome back

    Review by Mike

Very much a return to form, and a small can is a better format than a bomber! Big juicy hops with pine and citrus notes. Gorgeous! (Posted on 11/07/2017)

  • Typical Brewdog

    Review by TonyL

Typical Brewdog quality. A solid choice. (Posted on 18/06/2017)

  • Interesting IPA

    Review by Simon

I love the Punk IPA so thought I would give this a go. The born to die certainly packs a bitter hoppy flavour beyond Punk IPA. It is more citrusy, but so intense in flavour it's hard to drink more than one. My wife had a sip and found it way too bitter for her. Either way it's an interesting IPA and good for a change form the excellent Brewdog range. (Posted on 31/05/2017)

  • Nice IPA

    Review by Jonathan

A nice IPA with lots of tropical fruit and a bitter finish, but I think previous versions of Born to Die were better. (Posted on 30/05/2017)

  • Born to try

    Review by Daniel

Opening notes of tropical fruit permeating in a slight bitter finish. Nice inoffensive IPA (Posted on 23/05/2017)

  • Still alive and kicking. Kicking like a mule.

    Review by Llamaman

Drank this 8 days past it's 'death' and it was no less potent a palate-wrecker. Grapefruit hoppiness, a fizzing on the tongue from the sparkling effervescence and then a great big whallop from the alcohol. (Posted on 21/05/2017)

  • an excuse to drink it all

an other excellent brew from brewdog and the short shelf live means it has to be drunk (Posted on 17/05/2017)

  • Great Heavy Hitter

    Review by Daniel

I'm a massive fan of Brewdog, so wanted to give this a try. Packs a massive punch given the high ABV, but still enjoyable. Still have another bottle of this to go. (Posted on 17/05/2017)

  • Nice!

    Review by Janewit

This is an upgraded version of PunkIPA. More aroma, More tasted. Excellent IPA (Posted on 17/05/2017)

  • Buzz!

    Review by Bumblebee

Potent in every sense, this one had me 'buzzing'.
Subtlety goes out the window, in favour of a palate-trashing pithy bitterness and a kick like a mule. (Posted on 16/05/2017)

  • Attack!

    Review by Llamaman

Full on hop assault. Extremely bitter, backed with a pithy fruitiness, this is the palate-wrecker we've come to expect. The booze isn't subtle either. (Posted on 16/05/2017)

  • Not Brewdog's best

    Review by Daniel

This was a decent drop to try but I feel like the gimmick of it's name and shelf-life will come to be remembered rather than it's quality. (Posted on 04/04/2017)

  • Incredible

Incredible beer, worth the price tag. And can't wait for them new brew up a new batch. Well done brewdog (Posted on 28/03/2017)

  • Sweet hops

    Review by Dick Flassidy

Can't tell it's 8.5 %, had a few without even thinking of the abv. Slips down nicely, lovely hoppy taste and not too sweet. (Posted on 26/03/2017)

  • Overrated?

    Review by Mark

It's a nice beer, but can't help but feel the marketing hype drives the price up by a couple of quid. Nice to try...but I can't say I'll be rushing to buy another. (Posted on 19/03/2017)

  • Punk with a Kick

    Review by Flintshire Ian

Very unusually for a super strength beer, this was a joy to drink and reminded me of a supercharged Punk, miles away from the tramp soup taste that is traditionally associated with high strength beers.
Not for the faint hearted and a mightily powerful but very pleasant offering from one of my favourite brewers. I bought enough to perhaps hold one or two back to see what they taste like in April. (Posted on 14/03/2017)

  • Big beer!

    Review by Snozz

Pale gold with little head. Lots of pine and citrus (orange mostly) all through. Light malts. Bit more of a taste of booze than the old version. Initial sweetness leads to long dry bitter finish. (Posted on 12/03/2017)

  • Not quite as good as I was expecting

    Review by Bobby Dazzler

The usual hoppy aroma you'd expect from Brewdog but I was slightly disappointed there wasn't as much flavour as I expected. You won't need too many of them though! (Posted on 12/03/2017)

  • So delicious

    Review by Andrew

Every time I try this I'm blown away - then I check the ABV and can't believe it's so strong when the taste is so fresh.

Hoppy, fruity, smooth... Perfect beer really, they really, really need to make more of this (Posted on 08/03/2017)

  • Outstanding

    Review by S Stanbridge

Remarkable from brewdog again. Beautiful hoppy and lovely citrus flavours. Big 660ml bottle and its needed because it's incredibly easy drinking for its strength. (Posted on 07/03/2017)

  • Excellent and strong

    Review by Andy C

I love this beer. I'm glad I ordered 5 bottles. Big bottles too.

It's gone up in strength but retains the bitter, piney, citrus flavours that hit the spot.

I look forward to the next batch! (Posted on 05/03/2017)

  • More please!

    Review by MikJ

I am so glad that I purchased 5 bottles of this beauty! Stonkingly over hopped, sooo fruity and delicious. Has a strange effect on your legs (they stopped working!) I would give it more stars if I could!

  • Great

    Review by Shaun

Loved the freshness and hop bitterness that you get I would say that I enjoyed previous born to die releases more, the percentage being upped to 9.5% hasn't really made it any better in my eyes but it's still a great beer (Posted on 23/02/2017)

  • Born to be loved..

    Review by Kram

This beer is fantastic.!Looks beautiful and tastes even better. The guys over at Brewdog have smashed it out of the park with this one! (Posted on 19/02/2017)

    Review by Biz

This years Born to Die is amped up heaven. Tastes as good as always but Brewdog moved it from 8.5% to 9.5% full of hoppy bitterness. Buy it before it sells out. (Posted on 14/02/2017)

  • Cracking...

    Review by MH

Deep golden with whiteish head. Aroma has pungent hops, pineapple, mango, catty notes and caramel. Taste is similar, sweet and hoppy, mango, pineapple and other fruits, plus some grass and light pine. Good stuff.. (Posted on 04/12/2016)

  • Nice but tasted better

    Review by Pjherts

I loved the build up and hype around this beer but it slightly disappointed. It was very dry and crisp but felt it needed a little more depth. Almost fizzed off the tongue (Posted on 25/11/2016)

  • Good...but nothing extraordinary

    Review by Mark

As many of the reviews have pointed out, this is a very hoppy beer. However, whilst other 'hoppy beers' are hoppy to the point of tasting a little bitter, Born To Die avoids this well - you'll instantly pick up on all it's hoppyness, but rather than overpower it, it actually flavours the beer well.

However, there is a little bit of marketing-hype going on here in my opinion. The addition of a 'best before' date on the bottle creates the illusion of something very special - a special, limited edition beer.

It's good, but I've drank others which taste equally as good and at less cost. (Posted on 14/11/2016)

  • Delicious fresh ipa

    Review by MattO75

Drink as fresh as you can for the best possible experience. One of the top IPAs available. Tastes like a session ipa but beware the high abv (Posted on 10/11/2016)

  • Superfunk

    Review by Pinchy

It's a big bottle, with sediment, so you'd better have a big glass. Excellent beer. Nose wise I got something funky, though I did get the last bottle. Taste is great, big hoppy IPA. Super strength at 8.5 which makes it very dry and somewhat sticky, in a good way. (Posted on 09/11/2016)

  • The best brewdog.

    Review by ASmithy

Ive tried almost all brewdogs and this is my all time favourite, strong percentage beer but tastes very smooth with a lovely after taste. A must have! (Posted on 29/10/2016)

  • A symphony of tastes on your tongue

    Review by roverj75

Extremely happy IPA with a very Punk taste to it. Just explodes on your tongue and keeps on giving. It's citrus and mango flavours are a delight. Last bottle to be drunk tonight. Can't wait for next release (Posted on 28/10/2016)

  • Get it while it lasts

    Review by Birky

really interesting IPA, taste changedas it warmed up. Slightly bitter but real depth of flavour (Posted on 28/10/2016)

  • Amazing - Get One!

    Review by simontomlinson

Near white frothy head sat on a hazy light golden body with traces of yeast floating about - unusual for Brewdog.
Bitter sweet grapefruit & sweet citrus & mango.
Very sharp on the tongue, prickly on the back.
Citrus flavors of bitter rind, pith grapefruit, lemon, zest but a sametime this has a lovely sweet backbone to it.
    (Posted on 24/10/2016)

  • Hoppy I bought these

    Review by Abdyman

A great, fresh, hoppy beer. Loved it. Although as it's strong, comes in big bottles and has a short shelf life it's like brew dog are trying to make me drink more than I should! (Posted on 20/10/2016)

  • Outstanding

    Review by Andrew

    Fresh, juicy and so tasty...

Tropical fruits, easy drinking and with a bitterness that is not over the top this is the best thing I've had from Brewdog and probably joint top of the beers I've had this year between that and the almost identical "original" Magic Rock Inhaler (note - not the current one which is sadly not a patch on the first batch).

... And to those thinking of aging this I urge you not to. Having tried to stash some of the aforementioned and extremely similar Inhaler I came back to it only two months after purchase and found it was incredibly bitter, lost all its fruits and amazing taste... In fact it was undrinkable... Please don't do that to this amazing beer. (Posted on 10/10/2016)

  • Supreme!

    Review by BeerSnob76

This is 04.11.16 Born to Die is the second batch I have had, my first was the August 2016 version (which I reviewed).

This time I actually think I was more blown away than my first experience. This could be the most tasty and most clever beer on the planet.

It smells amazing, so much so I would give five stars just for that one experience, however to be able to taste it completes this heavenly joy of a beer.

  • Good, but not Great

    Review by &Y

Don't get me wrong, this is a wonderful beer, but was expecting more of a fresh hop flavour, with big aroma, but, well, it just didn't "pop" as I thought it would.

After taste was a little grassy/acidic, but great colour and body.

Definitely give it a try (especially with the extra discount from Beer Hawk!). I ordered 2 bottles, so might even wait until after it "Dies" as i've got a hunch this one "might' get better with age... (Posted on 01/10/2016)

  • Hoppy citrusy loveliness

    Review by MattO75

Brewdog release these two or three times per year with a very short date to encourage them to be drunk as fresh as possible. It may look expensive but the bottle is large enough to share (should you want to - I wouldn't). A great IPA with everything you could want - citrus, bitter, hoppy. Lovely (Posted on 30/09/2016)

  • To Die For...

    Review by Scott

Stunning, super fresh and superbly balanced between hoppy, sweet and bitter were my my first and second bottles. I had my third bottle yesterday a couple of weeks on and I can already taste the change with more bitterness but still incredibly moreish and quaffable for a high ABV.

Two bottles to go...one will DIE! (Posted on 08/08/2016)

  • Awesome

    Review by BTG

Everything about this beer is special, the flavor, hoppiness, aftertaste all awesome, the only downside is its limited brew, wanted another 10, but out of stock. Cant wait for 2017 (Posted on 06/08/2016)

  • Expensive but delicious

Really nicely balanced IPA. Not as excessively hopped as other Brewdog beers. The flavours nicely balance the strength. (Posted on 05/08/2016)

  • Bar set too high?

    Review by Mick

My 2nd batch of this delightful beer. Maybe its just me but after having some last year this brew did not live up to my expectations. It was still a great drink but the 1st hit wasn't so eye-bulgingly hoppy and not such a lingering finish.
I still loved it and will order again when available. Perhaps it is one of those things that I tend to do - build it up in my mind for 6 months then when it does arrive it does not live up to my exaggerated expectation. (Posted on 05/08/2016)

    Review by Bruce

This was my second bottle of this as I purchased the April edition. I have to say I found this version slightly underwhelming when compared to the earlier batch.

Not as bitter as before and less of a fruit kick from the hops.

Very powerful tasting IPA that does feel its strength, but that is by no means a bad thing! Not so "out there" as some Brewdog creations and very drinkable within the short lifespan it's given (though I'm sure it'd be ok to drink for a wee while after its "expiry" date too)! Like the previous editions from BrewDog, this is another super dry and bitter DIPA. Very much like their Jackhammer, if you like high IBU IPA's then seek out their next release. Also props to BeerHawk for their 5 for £25 deal at the time (Posted on 02/05/2016)

  • Fantastic

Bought this as a birthday present for my husband and he loves it, thinks it is one of Brewdogs finest IPAs. Looking forward to it be revived next year hopefully (Posted on 02/05/2016)

  • Lives up to the hype

    Review by Mick

I read about it and thought… "yeh, yeh, another marketing ploy". I was wrong. This hoppy, lingering and quietly savage little IPA is quite exquisite. If it was not for the high cost I could live on this stuff!
Waiting impatiently for next release. (Posted on 02/05/2016)

Perfect amount of hops. Very clean tasting for the ABV level. (Posted on 02/05/2016)

  • Curate's egg - good in parts.

    Review by Symmachus

Quite dry and quite bitter but both features significantly overhyped.

Far too much of a "refrehing" fruity flavour for my taste, but pleasant enough in its own way. (Posted on 02/05/2016)

A real treat. Very hoppy without being over powering.
    Beautifully balanced. (Posted on 02/05/2016)

  • Delicious!

    Review by Libby

A lovely, complex and very grown up beer. This is a taste that foreshadows summer and, although very strong, drinks like a much younger, less heavyweight quaff. (Posted on 02/05/2016)

  • Wonderful!

I wish that this could be available all year round! Incredible dry hoppiness. Absolutely gorgeous. (Posted on 02/05/2016)

Really nice drop, glad I bought 5...very dry & hoppy with a warming alcohol taste...well worth a go if you can find one! (Posted on 16/04/2016)

  • RIP

    Review by Bruce

Wow, this is one hopped up and super dry IPA, the driest IPA I have had.

Served at 7 degrees in two glasses you get so much!

Initially the smell for me was super piney and a almost new rubber smell followed by fruit

Tasting goes into a malt the super dry bitter taste that in mouth was like popping candy but tart and dry.

Looking forward to the neat release. (Posted on 14/04/2016)

  • A eulogy

    Review by Llamaman

We are gathered to mark the passing of this spring's 'Born To Die'.
She was delivered to much celebration (and overbearing hype) yesterday, but I had to leave her overnight to settle down from her travels.
Blonde she was, golden as a cornfield on a summers day, yet she had bite in her. By Jove, she had bite. Grapefruit tartness, tropical fruitiness and a resinous hoppiness overwhelmed all who met her.
She wore a thin bandana of lace and had a very dry sense of humour. It is this dryness that lingers long in the memory. Dry like the Gobi desert, or the form of a Crystal Palace striker (like the beer, I'm bitter).

She was built to be shared, but being a conservative fellow, I kept her all to myself. She was immensely strong (she could lift 5 navvies on the end of a shovel) so I'm now a little worse for wear. Adieu.

Ed: She leaves an empty bottle, crammed with self-aggrandisement (calling yourself 'awesome' on the label? Seriously?) (Posted on 12/04/2016)

  • Super hoppy, super dry

    Review by Omaristalis

Be warned, this isn't for the faint of heart! My wife loves a hoppy IPA, but had to gives hers to me because it was too dry!

The mango and lemongrass shined through for me. A lovely bottle, but challenging! (Posted on 11/04/2016)
