Located at the heart of the mystical Boyne Valley, Boyne Brewhouse add some new pages to the lengthy tome of Irish brewing heritage. With an eye towards craft, they’ve cranked out some stellar brews in recent years. Their Imperial Stout is no exception. Chocolate, coffee and liquorice leap out of the glass at you The flavour is lactose sweetness, dried fruits, liquorice and a little bit of PX decadence bringing it in for the sherry crowd. Dark decadence at it’s best!

This stout may have an ABV of 10.8% but this does not detract from the wonderful silky smoothness and full rich flavour of this brew. Outstanding...and dangerously very drinkable.

Black colour, some carbonation
Medium brown head, disappears quickly
Dark chocolate, berry, sherry, whiskey and vanilla aroma
Warming velvety, oily mouthfeel with some carbonation
Sweet, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, sherry and slightly woody flavour
Sweet, dry, chalky and slightly bitter aftertaste, slightly lingering, little carbonation
Disappointing

Very little flavour, to my pallet. You get a hint of the barrel on the back end, with the mouth feel maybe suggesting that this might be an imperial stout. Not unpleasant, but not good.
