  • Use the right glass

    Review by Beer Drinker

I tried this in a normal glass and then tried it using the special Kwak glass and wooden stand I had bought my (adult) son for his birthday. I know it's probably a psychological thing but it definitely tasted better in the Kwak glass. Maybe something to do with shape, air flow, I don't know. Anyway, the beer is strong and full bodied but a nice drink to sip. Not a session beer, unless you have a week off work! (Posted on 12/02/2018)

  • Memories - perfect Christmas gift

    Review by Weston

I bought 2 of these bottles as a Christmas present for my in-laws as I had already purchased glasses. They went on a trip to Belgium earlier in the year and they have mentioned this beer numerous times. They thought it was in perfect condition and loved that they could re-live a memory now at home (Posted on 30/12/2017)

  • Amazing

    Review by Adam

This is a classic Belgian beer which has been brewed since 1791.

It’s normally served in a sort of vase that need a wooden stand. If you’re lucky enough to drink this in its official glass you’ll feel like some nutty beer professor. Not that there’s anything wrong with that…!

An uncomparable Belgian too fermented beer with a unique taste.
The beer itself is bloody lovely. Where as some Belgian beers can be overly thick or sweet this finds a softer middle ground. It’s still a strong tasting beer with a fruity nose. Slightly sweet on the palate and goes down like silk.

I will be buying more of this very soon… (Posted on 17/12/2017)

  • Sweet and slightly spicy

    Review by Paul

I bought some of this beer is use in the fancy Kwak glass i recently purchased! .... Memories of sitting outside a bar in Brussels drinking this! It is quite a typical Belgium beer, with hints of spice, dried fruit and caramel. There is a slightly sweet finish to it and plenty of alcohol. A fine Belgian ale. (Posted on 12/12/2017)

A warming glow from this beer. A smooth rich taste and packs plenty of punch on the ABV (Posted on 27/11/2017)

  • Sweet Belgian

    Review by Dudes Brews

Sweet yeasty aroma with a deep amber colour and crystal clear clarity it pours with a good frothy head and is well carbonated in the typical Belgian style. Taste is sweet and honey like with some spicey phenolic notes although these are quite restrained. Not as complex as some other Belgian beers that are as highly rated, for me the sweetness does become a touch cloying and it wasn't quite as good as the majority of the reviews suggest IMO (Posted on 26/11/2017)

  • Kwak-ing tipple

    Review by Matthew

Easy to drink with yeasty after Taste, more subtle than some of the stronger belgian beers, so if unsure possibly a good one to start with?! Was certainly enjoyable when used to Marinade beef for a pie. Marinade, drain then use for the gravy! (Posted on 03/09/2017)

  • Great beer

    Review by Padi20

Difficult to really judge a Kwak without serving it in the legendary Beer Hawk Tekuglass.

Ultimately this beer looks great in full regalia, it has a nice deep amber coloured body with a moderate head. The Aroma is very spicy, almost like a mulled wine, and like many Belgian Christmas beers. These warming spices do carry through into the taste, and with a slight touch of gas on the tongue, it does slip down the gullet very well, and keeps the alcohol fairly well hidden. This might not be everyone's Bottle of beer, and a touch on the acquired side, but overall a very good beer of that there can be no doubt. (Posted on 24/05/2017)

Not one of my favourite Belgian beer's to choose.. but having it in it's glass makes it worth while. It has a very smooth, creamy texture... but don't be fooled... It's VERY strong. (Posted on 04/04/2017)

Fantastic depth of flavour and even better from its own glass and stand purchased from Beer Hawk. Will be coming back to get the most of out my glass for sure! (Posted on 08/03/2017)

  • Completely out of this world - my new favourite beer

    Review by Mich-ale

This really is a very deceptive beer. It smells of copper coins and pours the same colour as them too so I was expecting a very bitter metallic taste. I couldn't have been more wrong. The taste is completely out of this world - it is smooth as honey with malty treacle notes and a spicy liquorice aftertaste. There is a lingering sweetness left on the tongue as if I'd sucked a few liquorice allsorts. It is absolutely divine and far too easily quaffable but at a massive 8.4% ABV it's not one to drink too quickly.

Kwak may very well be my new favourite beer. (Posted on 25/02/2017)

    Review by Glennyboy

I first tried this beer in Ostende . The Barman was keen for me to drink to his recommendation . So I did . He then asked for me to give him my shoes . Bollocks to that I scoffed , but he invited me behind the bar counter to see the pile of abandone trainers , boots etc . Your shoes were a sort of deposit for the Rack more than the Glass . Eventually got to try said beer & my Mrs said she has never seen a beer hit me quicker than this . Quality stuff . (Posted on 02/09/2016)

  • Lives up to expectations

    Review by Mark T

These days it seems few things actually live up to their hype. The Taj Mahal and Bruce Springsteen concerts are exceptions - and so is Kwak.
It seems to be the most famous Belgian strong beer but takes just one taste of its wonderful strong caramel flavour to make you realise it is for real.
Highly recommended - with or without the weird glass! (Posted on 23/06/2016)

  • That drink with 'the glass'

    Review by DCFC_BEAN

I first tried Kwak in a real ale pub in Scarborough whilst holidaying and i instantly fell for it's charm. The novel glass was probably a factor but more so the deliciously thick and velvety mouth-feel with the oft-stated caramel flavour giving way to an almost raisiny (is that a word?) goodness. Bought twelve bottles alongside a Kwak glass and stand (only one mind, it's not my sharing beer...). Currently trying my hardest to limit myself to 1 per-night before my next order, so far so good... • So Belgian

    Review by Snoops

Not my first review for this beer so it must be good as I keep coming back to it. Obviously the insane glass helps but the drink is, though not as dark or as smooth as some other Belgian beer (definitely not a Trappist style) it does reflect the amazing variations and shear love of brewing beer that that Country has. Reminds my Wife and I of Bruge and you can't say fairer than that. (Posted on 11/02/2016)

  • An interesting introduction to Belgian beers

    Review by Robin

Having only recently got into strong Belgian beers I don\'t have a great deal to compare this to, but it was definitely an interesting drink with quite few fruity and caramel notes. I didn\'t find it quite as smooth as some of the other Belgian beers I\'ve tried with the high alcohol content being a little too pronounced in the aftertaste. Even so it is still a great beer and I\'m definitely interested in purchasing it again and trying it with the rather crazy looking official glass. (Posted on 19/01/2016)

  • Kwak - Perfection In a Glass?

    Review by McMaude

This is a great example of what makes Belgian beer great.

A very drinkable and refreshing beer, with a kick! Like all Begian beers, it comes in it's own glass and, as others have said, having the correct glass really does make a difference - and this is a corker. The only problem I have is that you really need two of each glass - there's nothing worse than having visitors and not being able to serve a beer in the wrong glass!
Be careful with this one though - at 8.4% it's like you're having two strong UK beers, although it feels wrong even mentioning these in the same breath! (Posted on 12/01/2015)
