You might be beginning to suspect that we have a bit of an unsubtle crush on Manchester considering the amount we mention it, but the fact is that there are just so many fantastic breweries popping up there it'd be selfish of us not to share them with you! I'm excited to announce that in September's Beer Club we're featuring one of my very favourite breweries: Runaway Brewery, based in Manchester's Green Quarter.

Both cases will contain Runaway's American Brown Ale, Rye IPA and Smoked Porter, and those of you who subscribe to the Strong case will also find the Pale Ale and IPA included.

American Brown Ale combines nutty, toasted malts with zesty citrus hops in a dry, full bodied beer, while Rye IPA is bone dry and brilliantly bitter with bundles of peppery spice and sweet tropical fruit, and Smoked Porter is thick, dark and silky smooth, with Bamberg smoked malt providing a subtle smoky character throughout.

While we're in the Manchester area, you will of course remember the fantastic Cloudwater, who happen to be our September Brewery of the Month! This month, subscribers to the Beer Club: Normal will get to explore Cloudwater's summer line up further with their fresh, easy drinking Session IPA, which has all the hoppiness of an IPA but a fraction of the ABV, and their full-strength IPA, with notes of citrus, tropical fruit sweetness and a robust bitter finish. The Normal case will also include Adnams Mosaic, a crisp and refreshing single hopped pale from Adnams' Jack Brand range, full of resinous pine and lemon flavours.

Meanwhile, the Strong case will be living up to its name, featuring both Durham White Stout and Durham Temptation, and we've even got our hands on a Harviestoun Ola Dubh Special Reserve 12 for you. Don't say we aren't good to you! White Stout sounds like a contradiction, but it actually hearkens back to the days when 'stout' meant a strong ale, before it came to be synonymous with the dark roastiness we associate it with today. The other two, however, are as dark as they come. Temptation pours thick and viscous, with all of the intense coffee and chocolate notes you'd expect from an imperial Russian stout, and Harviestoun Ola Dubh's name even translates as 'black oil'! Aged in barrels which once held 12 year old single malt from the Highland Park distillery, this magnificently rich and complex beer will definitely warm you up as the nights start to get longer.

All this writing about beer has got me thirsty, so I'll leave you to the business of discovering what other treats are in your Beer Club case this month. Cheers!
