Details

Birra del Borgo's Duchessa is a classic Saison/Farmhouse Ale that is brewed using the ancient grain of spelt in place of any wheat. Whilst spelt is traditionally used in a lot of French and Belgian summer ales it is not considered to be "gluten free," instead it is a suitable substitution for those who have wheat allergies. The straw-coloured Duchessa has prominent malts on the nose alongside a bit of spicy yeast and subtle orange notes. A mostly clean flavour is accentuated by some florals and a bit of spicy pepper. Light-bodied and creamy, a delicate carbonation lifts the semi-sweet finish. Clean and refreshing, this saison will also appeal to lager-lovers.

Brewery Info

One of Italy’s most popular craft breweries, Birra del Borgo has been rethinking beer since 2005. The brewery is located about 60 miles east of Rome and is famed for its highly rated Re Ale IPA as well as many others which draw influence from international brewing traditions. Whether it’s pushing the boundaries with ingredients or reinterpreting classic styles, Birra del Borgo has been redefining beer in Italy.

Not the greatest Saison I've ever drunk but decent. A hint of the style rather than full on.
