Brasseries Des Sources means Brewery of Springs and was founded by the actor Gerard Depardieu Bellerose Blonde is certainly an unusual customer. In this Biere de Garde/IPA hybrid you'll find spicy, peppery Belgian notes accompanying honey sweetness, orange peel, cloves and a refreshing herbal flavour. Brewed by Brasseries Des Sources - 'Brewery of the Springs' - which was founded by actor Gerard Depardieu and his friends, Bellerose Blonde is fresh and clean with a dry finish.

Brewery Info

Brasserie des Sources (Brewery of the Springs) was founded in 1997 by French film icon Gerard Depardieu and fellow actors from the film adaptation of Emile Zola’s 1885 novel Germinal. While shooting the film in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, Depardieu and friends decided to start the brewery as a ‘thank you’ to the local town, creating jobs in this economically depressed corner of France.

Believe it or not, France does have something of a brewing tradition - Northern France in particular has a strong Flemish influence (it’s next to Belgium’s Flanders after all). As if to prove this, Brasserie des Sources’ Bellerose Blonde won a gold medal at the International Beer Challenge in 2011 and 2012, the first time a French beer has ever won consecutive golds at the IBC!

Lacking identity
Review by
A bière de garde this is not – more like a Belgian pale ale that’s lost its way. Mild spices are present and the hops add a good fruitiness, but it’s ultimately too sweet to be a quick drinker. It’s like the brewer got a bit carried away adding flavours which don’t combine. This beer is crying out for some bitterness.

I enjoyed this, a bit of a mix of saison/IPA which I both like. Citrus flavours through out so I think the IPA side is stronger.
Not a lot

Not a good advert for French beer. I found this lacked flavour and did not deliver any of the quoted flavours.
