The title of pale ale is a little deceptive as this weighs in at a healthy 7.5%. This is a hazy amber colour with an off-white head. A bready nose with a hint of dried fruit, the kind your grandma used to stash at Christmas time. High in bitterness with a smooth mouthfeel, some citrus and again a fair amount of funky bready flavours. If this doesn’t make you feel patriotic we don’t know what will!

A proper ale

Big bottle, I like this. A fine ale. IPA in the traditional English style, hoppy with some maltiness too

Pours a hazy dark golden colour with vigorous carbonation and a white head of 2-3 centimetres at first. Big earthy and spicy old World hop aromas dominate the nose, alongside strong alcohols and some toffee-like malt character. Taste delivers a firm hoppy bitterness with a toffee/caramel malt centre with a nice fruitiness to it and a good level of refreshing carbonation. Finishes with a clean bitterness and nice warmth from the alcohol. Great beer, really enjoyed tasting this take on the original IPAs.
