Celt Ogham Oak

Celt Ogham Oak

Part of the marvellous Ogham range, Oak is one of Celt's elite brews. Branded an "Exotic Tripel" with Belgian Yeast, this is a warmly spicy beer very much in the spirit of a Belgian tripel only with an overt citrus freshness that makes this an excitingly unique beer

  1. Interesting winter tripel Review by Erwin

The Celt Ogham Oak is described as an "exotic tripel" - which could not be further from my experience.

Straight from the first sip you can taste cinnamon. Cinnamon is not very often used in beers as it will overpower almost all other tastes - the same is sort of true here but it is not unpleasant. The next thing you taste is orange peel which is lingering more in the back. The mouth feel is very full, warm and a bit sweet - also because the ABV is 8,5 percent. Drinking it reminded me of winter or Christmas - certainly not of tropical places!

This beer is pretty unique - I never tasted a beer quite like it. After I finished my glass I was happy it was done. The novelty did not work for me all the way through the glass.

Recommended for a cold winter day, people who like "different" beers or people that like cinnamon. For me it was a 3 out of 5. (Posted on 25/06/2015)

  3. Flavoursome Review by Pinchy

Agree with the other reviewer. Some spice and citrus but I enjoyed it. One to savour (Posted on 17/01/2015)

  4. kate Review by kate

fabulous beer. strong but lovely flavour (Posted on 03/01/2015)

  5. The Big, Bad, Bold Belgian Review by Ay Pee Horne

Belgian tripel with a twist. Punchy and a bit spicy. The zing of citrus at the end is a little confusing. Not one I would have again if I'm honest. (Posted on 25/11/2014)

My order arrived on time in perfect condition. I was kept informed about the estimated arrival time of my order via text and email. I am completely happy with the service.
Hmmmm I do not like writing negative reviews and have used Beer Hawk before and they have been great but I am left a little underwhelmed. Simply I ordered the Oktoberfest selection with great anticipation and expected 15 different beers I have never tried to arrive, (the previous box had contained 15 different beers and was a massive party hit.) The first issue was probably my excitement as after ordering I got an email telling me my beers were in the warehouse and ready for dispatch.... after 2 days I had heard nothing and contacted Beer Hawk only to be told they were still in the warehouse ready to be sent and would be shortly. They arrived 2 days later which is not bad but my excitement and an expectation of an Amazon esque delivery window meant the 4 days felt like an eternity. What would have helped was an indication of the length of time when ordering as I would have gone for the express option. The second issue is just instead of 15 different beers I got 5 different beers but 3 of each. I won't complain as they are good beers but I am surprised why there were only 5 different ones.... Thus, all in all it was just a little disappointing and underwhelming.
Although the delivery company brought the two boxes separately on different days, the selection of beer was great. It is the second year my wife and I have ordered the Oktoberfest box because we enjoy it so much. Great work !
